Senior Project Engineer, OBD System Development
Job Summary:

Our client in Auburn Hills, MI is seeking a Senior Project Engineer, OBD System Development. This is a contract position.

As a Sr. Project Engineer specializing in conventional and hybrid powertrains, you will lead calibration and validation of on-board diagnostic (OBD) systems, along with engine and hybrid powertrain development, testing, validation, and certification activities on chassis and engine dynos, as well as in-vehicle environments. Collaborating with motivated teams globally, you will expand your experience with diverse engine, vehicle, and market technologies. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, eager to learn, and ready to contribute positively.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Lead installation and commissioning of new powertrain test setups, including conventional and hybrid engines.
  2. Identify and implement measurement points, connections, and instrumentation for testing.
  3. Plan, coordinate, and execute testing of engines, aftertreatment, powertrain, and OBD systems on dynamometers or in application.
  4. Analyze parameters and system performance against project targets.
  5. Calibrate and validate ECU parameters to meet program objectives.
  6. Summarize findings and prepare reports for internal and customer review.
  7. Manage hardware, project components, inventory, and logistics.
  8. May require onsite work at customer facilities and vehicle test trips.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Automotive or Electrical/Electronics Engineering; Master’s preferred.
  2. 3+ years experience in engine, vehicle, or powertrain testing.
  3. Extensive experience with calibration and implementation of OBD strategies complying with CARB regulations.
  4. Strong understanding of US OBD monitoring, fault handling, and communication.
  5. Experience developing OBD software requirements and working with automotive sensors and actuators.
  6. Knowledge of calibration tools (ETAS INCA, ATI Vision, Vector CANape/CANalyzer, Matlab/Simulink).
  7. Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and combustion engines.
  8. Excellent communication skills in English.
  9. Motivated team player capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
