With nine offices across the state, we have provided services to transportation, water resources, government, and federal markets for over 60 years. We are well positioned in the marketplace and on a growth trajectory to expand our geographic services.

MNS is hiring a Senior Project Engineer to apply technical skills and leadership in planning, design, and management of transportation projects and related infrastructure for public sector clients.

This position will be primarily remote, with occasional travel within California to meet client needs. Candidates must reside in California and be willing to participate in in-person meetings along the Central Coast.

Summary of Position
  • Develops broad knowledge and skills focusing on transportation projects for public clients, including roadway geometrics, ADA ramps, grading, feature lines, grading groups, and surfaces.
  • Performs engineering calculations and prepares detailed design drawings and specifications, such as construction quantities and earthwork volume surfaces.
  • Gathers information, develops, evaluates alternatives, and prepares engineering reports, including cost comparisons, geometric alternatives (alignments/profiles), and cross sections.
  • Interacts with clients, local and remote MNS staff, permitting agencies, and other consulting firms to execute engineering projects.
  • Supports project management activities related to municipal engineering project planning and execution.
  • Contributes to local efforts in identifying, pursuing, and winning new projects and work.
  • Builds broad knowledge and skills in specific practice areas.
  • Applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria for conventional projects with minimal complex features.
  • Uses judgment to adapt methods for non-routine aspects of assignments.
  • Works on small projects or parts of larger projects, coordinating tasks with entry-level engineers, technicians, or administrative staff.
  • Assists in determining project schedule and budget requirements.
  • Receives guidance on complex problems and potential solutions.
  • Reviews completed work to ensure sound professional judgment.
  • Performs reviews of other engineering products.
  • Travels frequently to work sites and client locations for project review and meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Education, Licensure, or Certification
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
  • California Professional Engineer License required.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D and/or MicroStation.
  • Valid California driver’s license and insurability.
Minimum Experience
  • 6+ years of transportation design experience.
Other Required Skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with staff, the public, officials, and contractors.
  • Assist with client and official communications related to assignments or meetings.
  • Prepare draft design reports under senior staff guidance.
