Job summary

Performance Contracting Group in San Diego, CA is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to lead interior systems projects at the San Diego 751 operations. You will oversee planning, coordination, execution, and closeout, ensuring safety, on-time delivery, and budget adherence.

You will manage project controls, procurement, scheduling, and financial performance while maintaining client and field communications and mentoring engineering staff.

Qualifications

  • 4–7 years of experience managing construction projects
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Strong ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Self-motivated with initiative
  • Strong problem-solving and time-management skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day administration of assigned projects from turnover through closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, coordinating with PMs, superintendents, and foremen.
  • Monitor job costs, forecast, and perform variance analysis to ensure financial performance.
  • Procure materials, equipment, and subcontractor activities while managing RFIs, submittals, and closeout documentation.
  • Support design-assist efforts, constructability reviews, and coordination with architects, engineers, and trade partners.
  • Mentor Associate Project Engineers and Project Engineers to develop their professional skills.
  • Ensure compliance with safety policies and PCI's QA/QC program and maintain project records.

Job Description

Performance Contracting is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer for its San Diego 751 operations based in San Diego, CA. This individual will lead and support the planning, coordination, execution, and closeout of interior systems projects, overseeing project controls, client and field communication, subcontractor coordination, change management, procurement, scheduling, and financial performance to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Manage the day-to-day administration of assigned projects from turnover through closeout.
  • Perform labor control setup, tracking, forecasting, and maintenance to ensure alignment with project budgets.
  • Prepare, track, and manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and closeout documentation.
  • Complete quantity takeoffs to verify scope, support procurement, and price change orders.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules while coordinating with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen.
  • Procure and coordinate materials, equipment, and subcontractor activities.
  • Manage change order documentation, cost tracking, and customer communications.
  • Monitor project financial performance, including job cost reports, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Coordinate field operations and support manpower planning to meet production goals.
  • Conduct project review meetings and communicate project status, risks, and opportunities to management.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including as-builts, specification compliance, and contract records.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control initiatives in accordance with PCI's QA/QC program.
  • Assist with design-assist efforts, constructability reviews, and coordination with architects, engineers, and trade partners.
  • Utilize D365, Labor Control, Procore, Clearstory, and other PCI systems to effectively manage project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with PCI safety policies and actively support field safety initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with owners, general contractors, architects, vendors, and trade partners.
  • Mentor Associate Project Engineers and Project Engineers while supporting their professional development.
  • Identify project risks early and develop mitigation plans to protect schedule, budget, quality, and customer satisfaction

Salary range:annual salary plus non-guaranteed annualized bonus program.

This position is safety-sensitive.

Basic Requirements
  • Must have at least 4-7 years’ experience managing construction projects
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products (e.g., Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Possess a clear understanding of how to read and interpret specifications and drawings
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to learn new skills by engaging in the technical job functions and applying new skills as they’re learned
  • Strong customer service skills and relationship-building abilities
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask while handling multiple projects concurrently
  • Motivated self-starter with strong work ethic and a willingness to take initiative
  • Works well under pressure and deadlines
  • Possess critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
Preferred Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, or related discipline
  • Experience with metal stud framing, drywall systems, acoustical ceilings, specialty ceilings, wall panels, exterior cladding systems, plater and other interior and exterior architectural specialty scope ispreferred
  • Experience managing specialty scopes of construction
  • OSHA certification
  • Local to San Diego
  • Willing to travel or relocate based on project needs
