Overview
Our client is seeking a Senior Warehouse Project Engineer to support a major warehouse modernization and expansion initiative within a highly automated pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This role will be a key contributor to several strategic projects including warehouse automation upgrades, AGV fleet expansion, RFID integration, ASRS enhancements, and a site-wide wood pallet elimination strategy.
The engineer will work within the Warehouse Engineering group supporting a complex material handling operation responsible for delivering components to assembly and packaging lines while also managing finished goods storage and distribution. This individual will serve as a technical lead for automation-focused projects and play a critical role in ensuring uninterrupted warehouse operations.
What You'll Be Working On
Warehouse Expansion & Automation
- Support a multi-year warehouse modernization initiative involving:
- Expansion of AGV fleet
- New automation installations
- Material flow optimization
- Lead automation-focused capital projects from design through implementation.
- Coordinate with vendors, including Dematic, on system upgrades and integration activities.
- Lead portions of a corporate initiative to eliminate wood pallets from manufacturing and warehouse operations.
- Support implementation of plastic pallet systems and pallet exchange equipment.
- Evaluate material flow impacts and troubleshoot system interactions with packaging, assembly, and warehouse operations.
- Work cross-functionally to ensure operational readiness and successful deployment.
RFID & Material Tracking
- Drive RFID implementation initiatives.
- Support integration of scanners, cameras, vision systems, and material tracking technologies.
- Improve inventory visibility and warehouse efficiency through automation solutions.
Operational Support
- Troubleshoot automation issues impacting material movement and warehouse performance.
- Support CQV, testing, validation, and startup activities.
- Participate in on-call support as needed for critical warehouse operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, or related).
- 5+ years of engineering experience in industrial manufacturing, warehouse automation, logistics, or automation engineering environments.
- Experience leading engineering projects from concept through execution.
- Strong automation troubleshooting experience.
- Experience with:
- PLCs
- HMIs
- RFID systems
- Barcode scanners
- Vision systems
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Rockwell Automation PLC experience.
- AGV exposure.
- ASRS experience.
- SCADA or Ignition experience.
- SQL or data analytics experience.
- Pharmaceutical or GMP-regulated manufacturing experience.
- Material handling, logistics, warehouse automation, or distribution center experience.
