Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory seeks a Project Engineer for the Field Engineering team to interface with system and infrastructure engineering and subcontractors at the Naval Reactors Facility in Idaho. The role delivers design coordination, field support, and project controls across short and multi-year capital projects.

You will work with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure safety, reliability, quality, schedule, and cost alignment, while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and proficiency

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or higher with minimum years of relevant experience or advanced degree with fewer years of experience.
  • Masters or Doctorate in related field acceptable with required years of experience.
  • Current Senior Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at Naval Nuclear Laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare or coordinate design documents (drawings, specs, cost estimates, testing, commissioning).
  • Coordinate with Project Manager, General Contractor and subs to meet contract documents and codes.
  • Provide field support and inspections, monitor progress, resolve technical issues to minimize delays.
  • Support schedule and budget development, forecasting, and project controls.
  • Review and approve technical submittals.
  • Establish and oversee field architectural/engineering follow-ups.
  • Obtain and maintain local qualifications as required (Engineer of Environmental Work, Excavation Permit Requestor).
  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders to ensure project progression.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Job Description

Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is seeking a Project Engineer for the Field Engineering team to interface with system and infrastructure engineering and subcontractors executing projects at the Naval Reactors Facility in Idaho. Projects in the construction portfolio range from short duration (<1yr) to multi-year, multi-million-dollar projects, to replacement-in-kind or renovation of aging infrastructure and systems.

The Project Engineer provides technical knowledge for the development and execution of construction projects without compromising safety, reliability, quality, schedule, and cost, as part of a multi-disciplinary project team.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Prepares or coordinates the preparation of design documents (drawing and technical specifications, cost estimates, testing and/or commissioning of new infrastructure, facilities, and equipment).
  • Works closely with Project Manager, General Contractor, and sub-tiers to ensure project is constructed in accordance with contract documents and the applicable code(s) of record.
  • Provides field support and inspections, to include monitoring progress and performance against project plans with the project team and taking action to resolve technical problems to minimize delays.
  • May prepare engineering standards, designs, and work specifications, and supports project schedule and budget development, and forecasting.
  • Reviews and approves technical submittals.
  • Establishes and oversees architectural/ engineering field follow.
  • Candidate will be required to obtain and maintain local qualifications including Engineer of Environmental Work, Excavation Permit Requestor, other quals as required.
  • Develops and maintains healthy relationships with stakeholders, engineering, management, customers, and peers to ensure the progression and success of projects and the facility.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science or construction field and a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science or construction field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science or construction field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or Currently a Senior Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Pay Range

$86,100.00 - $134,600.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
