Job summary

The City of East Lansing is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead innovative municipal projects from concept through construction and operation. You will oversee water, sewer, streets, and traffic projects, manage asset plans, and coordinate environmental and right-of-way permits, while coordinating with cross-department staff and engaging residents and businesses.

SUMMARY:

Working as part of the Engineering Division, you will help lead a talented team in the development of internally and externally designed projects and operation of related municipal programs. You’ll be responsible for developing and executing a diverse range of projects (water, sewer, streets, traffic, etc.), asset management plans, studies, right of way permitting, environmental permitting and programs, and the related resident and business communication. You will also work with cross-departmental staff to help review site plans and participate in complex development projects. We value excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with the public, providing clear explanations of projects and solving problems that arise during construction.

Work experience should include five years of increasingly responsible civil engineering experience in road, water and/or sewer design, including two years of project supervisory responsibility. Demonstrated project management skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills are key.
