Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a senior leader to drive U.S.-based wind, solar, and battery development from early to late stages. You will coordinate interconnection milestones, land control, permitting, and environmental reviews while guiding a growing team in a fast‑moving energy market.

You will analyze budgets, schedules, and contracts, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with Legal, Finance, and executives to close transactions across MISO, ERCOT, and PJM. Occasional travel to project sites is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college program.
  • 5+ years of wind and/or solar development experience.
  • Full-cycle utility-scale wind, solar, and battery development and marketing knowledge.
  • Extensive knowledge of interconnection, permitting, real estate, state/federal regulation, utility procurement goals, politics, law, and renewable energy project development issues in U.S. energy markets
  • Strong understanding of U.S. power markets and transmission systems
  • Ability to frame issues concisely with context, analysis, recommendations, and risk/benefit tradeoffs in written, verbal, and presentation formats
  • Ability to recognize development opportunities and evaluate renewable project development risks
  • Willing and available to travel significantly as needed, roughly 50% depending on project stage and COVID-19 restrictions

Job description

  • Lead U.S.-based wind, solar, and battery projects through all development phases, focusing on mid- to late-stage development
  • Finalize land control and coordinate interconnection milestones
  • Facilitate environmental, permitting, and transmission reviews
  • Deliver high-quality, profitable projects that meet milestones across MISO, ERCOT, and PJM
  • Review budget and timeline reports and develop plans to meet project schedules and budgets
  • Support and lead junior staff
  • Develop, solicit, and negotiate statements of work, commercial terms, and contract conditions
  • Establish contract review, approval, and compliance-monitoring processes
  • Analyze contracts and financing agreements and manage project budgets and financial models
  • Lead complex commercial negotiations and mentor junior staff
  • Collaborate with executive, Legal, Finance, and other internal teams to close transactions
  • Build relationships with government, regulatory, utility, and other stakeholders
  • Lead landowner discussions, negotiate site‑control agreements, mitigate risks, and secure planning/use permits
  • Travel to project sites to assess opportunities and acquire land rights
  • Identify innovative uses of GIS and mapping tools and perform independent analysis
  • Analyze regulatory changes and lead complex permitting and tax strategies
  • Improve study processes, cost efficiency, and project advancement decisions
  • Use interconnection trends to select priority areas and project sites
  • Work with Engineering and Finance to optimize technical, material, and financial solutions
  • Apply advanced knowledge of battery storage, solar, and wind construction and operations to optimize projects
  • Collaborate across Scout, develop team systems and processes, and resolve complex issues
  • Develop direct reports and support professional development
  • Lead project handoffs to subsequent phases such as construction or M&A
  • Support group development strategy, lead projects through Scout’s Tier structure, and deliver annual goals
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college program
  • 5+ years of wind and/or solar development experience
  • Full-cycle utility-scale wind, solar, and battery (BESS) power generation development and marketing knowledge
  • Considerable experience leading mid- to late-stage development
  • Extensive knowledge of interconnection, permitting, real estate, state/federal regulation, utility procurement goals, politics, law, and renewable energy project development issues in U.S. energy markets
  • Strong understanding of U.S. power markets and transmission systems
  • Solid understanding of economic drivers for renewable energy projects
  • Ability to frame issues concisely with context, analysis, recommendations, and risk/benefit tradeoffs in written, verbal, and presentation formats
  • Ability to recognize development opportunities and evaluate renewable project development risks
  • Ability to work effectively in a flat organization and dynamic, evolving industry
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and GIS platforms such as Google Earth and ArcGIS
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Willing and available to travel significantly as needed, roughly 50% depending on project stage and COVID-19 restrictions
