Job summary

Interplan is expanding its Orlando office and seeks a Senior Project Designer to lead the creation of high-quality construction documents. The role supports project supervisors, develops complete CAD drawings, and mentors Design Engineers while ensuring compliance with codes and Interplan standards.

The ideal candidate will collaborate with architects, clients, and consultants, coordinate multiple projects, and contribute to drawing prototypes and process improvements in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, design, or related field.
  • Experience producing construction documents in architectural/engineering environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD software with strong drawing skills.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, permitting and construction documentation processes.
  • Experience coordinating with architects, consultants, contractors, or clients.
  • Experience mentoring junior design team members is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Produce complete, accurate CAD drawings per project direction and Interplan standards.
  • Review, redline, and correct your own work before team review.
  • Coordinate drawings with architects, consultants, and other disciplines.
  • Participate in project discussions with architects, clients, and internal teams.
  • Research applicable building codes and incorporate requirements into documents.
  • Assist supervisors with project coordination, code research, and admin tasks.
  • Incorporate contractor and owner change directives into drawings and docs.
  • Review and implement building department comments.
  • Prepare department comment responses and related correspondence.
  • Oversee, train, and support Design Engineers for growth.
  • Maintain Interplan’s standards for drawing quality and client service.
  • Contribute to drawing prototypes, standards, and processes for efficiency.
  • Seek feedback and engage supervisors for support when needed.
  • Share ideas to support continuous improvement and teamwork.
  • Work with diverse project management and leadership styles.
  • Follow up on project issues and communicate with stakeholders.

Interplan is a commercial architectural and engineering firm with over 50 years of experience specializing in restaurant and retail design for large nationwide clients. Our Orlando office is expanding, and we are seeking a talented Senior Design Engineer to join our team!

The Senior Design Engineer is a key contributor to the development of high-quality construction documents. This role supports project supervisors and teams by producing complete, accurate, and thorough CAD drawings in accordance with project requirements, applicable codes, and Interplan standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, proactive, and committed to mentoring and supporting Design Engineers.

Responsibilities
  • Produce complete, accurate, and thorough CAD drawings in accordance with project direction and Interplan standards.
  • Review, redline, and correct your own work before advancing drawings for team review.
  • Coordinate drawings and project requirements with architects, consultants, and other disciplines.
  • Participate in project discussions with architects, clients, and internal project teams.
  • Research applicable building codes and assist with incorporating requirements into construction documents.
  • Assist supervisors with administrative tasks, project coordination, code research, and limited construction administration activities.
  • Incorporate contractor and owner change directives into project drawings and documentation.
  • Review and implement changes resulting from building department comments.
  • Prepare building department comment responses and related correspondence, including inspection letters and owner letters, as required.
  • Oversee, train, guide, and support Design Engineers in their project work and professional growth.
  • Help maintain and uphold Interplan’s standards for drawing quality, consistency, accuracy, and client service.
  • Participate in the creation and refinement of drawing prototypes, standards, and processes to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Seek feedback and guidance regularly and engage supervisors or senior-level resources when additional support is needed.
  • Share ideas, innovations, and recommendations with supervisors to support continuous improvement.
  • Work effectively with a variety of project management and leadership styles.
  • Follow up promptly on project-related issues and communicate effectively with internal teams, consultants, clients, and other project stakeholders.
Qualifications & Prior Experience
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, design, or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant experience producing construction documents in an architectural, engineering, design, or professional-services environment required.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD software and strong technical drawing skills required.
  • Working knowledge of building codes, permitting requirements, and construction-documentation processes.
  • Experience coordinating with architects, consultants, contractors, and/or clients.
  • Experience training, mentoring, or providing direction to junior design team members preferred.
  • Construction administration experience is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
