Job summary

Hilmar Cheese Company in Hilmar, CA, is seeking a Senior Design Project Engineer who blends design engineering with technical project management. You will lead capital projects aligned with the SAMP and PMO to meet organizational goals, under the site engineering manager.

You will oversee end-to-end projects, mentor engineers, ensure regulatory compliance (FDA, USDA, 3A), develop P&IDs and BOMs, manage budgets and schedules, and collaborate across departments to deliver reliable, cost-effective

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering with 5+ years’ related experience or Master’s with 3+ years’ related experience.
• Experience designing or supporting manufacturing facilities in hygienic or dairy/regulatory environments.
• Strong communication skills and ability to lead and collaborate in teams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Manage large-scale capital projects end to end to deliver business value.
• Handle scheduling, costing, procurement, and budgeting for multiple projects.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance.
• Oversee design, process optimization, and equipment sizing.
• Maintain P&IDs, diagrams, layouts, BOMs, and engineering docs.
• Collaborate across departments and manage vendor relations.
• Ensure regulatory compliance (FDA, USDA, 3A, EHEDG) and risk reviews.
• Manage project risks, scope, and commissioning for optimization.
