We are currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Project Cost Estimator located in Los Angeles, CA.
Required Education:
- Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, or construction management
Required Qualifications:
- 10 years of full-time paid professional experience in preparing complete cost estimates for type I, II, III, and V building construction as defined by the State building code, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
- Knowledge of current local construction labor and material costs.
- Extensive experience in developing and estimating the scope of work for change orders.
- Ability to compare independent cost estimates with contractor proposals to quickly identify discrepancies.
- Ability to develop scope of work based on RFI/RFC answers and estimate detailed costs independently of contractor proposals.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, supervise, and participate in the preparation of construction cost estimates from drawings, outlines, and specifications.
- Prepare and review cost estimates and related materials for securing State and federal grants and loans, representing the District on pertinent matters.
- Check construction cost estimates submitted by architects and engineers for accuracy and completeness, comparing them with District estimates.
- Consult with architects and engineers to resolve discrepancies and negotiate agreements on preliminary estimates.
- Study and report on bids that vary significantly from estimates.
- Check and recommend acceptance or rejection of segregated contract costs for progress payments.
- Analyze change orders and approve or reject extras or credits.
- Prepare or review project cost estimates.
- Establish procedures for approval of plans, specifications, and bidding processes.
- Develop methods for maintaining data on estimated vs. actual construction costs.
- Conduct seminars and workshops on bidding procedures, contracts, and cost estimating.
- Estimate damages costs from fire, disasters, or vandalism.
- Establish budgets for school building projects.
- Assist other branches as needed.
- Prepare preliminary and final independent cost estimates for negotiations.
- Support price negotiations and prepare claim analyses.
- Review contractor claims for merit and accountability.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Salary: $170,000 to $180,000
Bonus Pay: A bonus may be granted based on individual performance, utilization, attendance, tenure, and other corporate goals, at management's discretion.
