AtkinsRéalis in Indianapolis, IN seeks a Senior Project Controls Manager to lead the project controls team on major projects, delivering cost and schedule management, earned value, risk management, and reporting. The role oversees cost estimates, forecasts, budgets, change management, and dashboards, partnering with project groups to integrate schedules and procurement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 10 years of relevant experience.
  • PMP, CCP, or EVP certifications preferred.
  • Experience developing budgets, cash flows, financial analysis, and schedules.
  • Strong communication, problem solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency with PM software including Primavera and MS Project.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the project controls team and mentor staff on major projects.
  • Maintain and revise detailed cost estimates and forecasts.
  • Track budgets, commitments, actuals, accruals, and forecasts using Earned Value.
  • Develop and improve project controls systems and tools.
  • Establish a project Work Breakdown Structure aligned with industry best practices.
  • Analyze bid requirements and ensure cost control in contracts and POs.
  • Coordinate with other groups on cost codes, POs, and change orders.
  • Create budgets from estimates and develop cash flow projections.
  • Manage overall project cost control efforts with senior staff.
  • Develop and update integrated detailed project schedules.
  • Identify long lead items, resource constraints, and start dates early.
  • Produce project cost forecasts and variance analyses.

Overview

Our Indianapolis team is growing! The Senior Project Controls Manager serves as the team leader on major projects and is the client’s main contact for providing project cost and schedule management services, including invoice validation, cost forecasting and reporting, change management, close out administration, earned value and risk management. This position is based out of Indianapolis, IN and reports to an account lead, with potential for remote or hybrid for the right candidate. Your role
  • Manage staff coordination and workload and directly supervise and mentor the project controls team as a subject matter expert.
  • Manage, revise, and maintain status of the detailed project cost estimate/forecast to include all phases of project execution from design/engineering, material/equipment procurement and deliveries, construction contracts through start-up activities and closeout.
  • Track and analyze the project costs including budgets, commitments, actuals, accruals, and forecasts using Earned Value methodology. Analysis includes forecast and variance analysis (cost and schedule), trends, risk analysis with evaluation of contingency reserve and developing and maintaining an issue log.
  • Participate in the development and improvement of project controls systems. Recommend improvements in systems, tools, and methods of project controls and project management.
  • Establish a project work breakdown structure in line with industry best practices.
  • Assist in analyzing project control requirements as part of the bid review process to ensure all cost control requirements are incorporated into individual contracts and purchase orders.
  • Interact with other project groups in relation to cost codes, purchase order commitments, change orders.
  • Assist in creating detailed project budgets from estimates and in the development of cash flow projections.
  • Work with senior project management staff in managing the overall project cost control efforts.
  • Work with scheduling staff to develop, manage, revise, and update integrated detailed project schedules including all phases of project execution.
  • Assist in early identification of long lead items, resource constraints, and required project start dates.
  • Manage key project indicators and project commercial reports.
  • Manage internal job costing in relation to the fee and services to be provided, resources required and all project reporting including job number, Project Status Report (PSR) and other company reporting policies.
  • Produce forecasts of total project costs, annual costs, and monthly cash flow costs and provides variance analysis and explanations.
  • Manage risk management process including driving the identification, evaluation, mitigation and management process of the risk management.
  • Assist in coordinating engineering and construction activities in conjunction with overall project schedule requirements. Incorporates engineering and construction contractor schedules into overall project schedules.
  • Work with the senior project management staff in ensuring all contract deliverables and deadlines are met.
  • Provide senior level general project management support as necessary (e.g., financial/operational budgeting, consolidation, analysis, forecasting; business development; pricing; billing; key client/consultant relationship management).
About you
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Accounting, Finance or a related field, plus 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Preference for PMP – Project Management Professional (PMI) or CCP - Certified Cost Professional (AACE) or EVP – Earned Value Professional (AACE).
  • Must have experience in developing budgets, cash flows, financial analysis and/or schedules.
  • Must be highly articulate, have clear and analytical approach to problem solving, and strong decision making abilities.
  • Must thoroughly understand and utilize Information Technology in the performance of work including Internet, Intranet, Microsoft Windows OS, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Project.
  • Must have strong cost management, scheduling, and project planning and estimating skills, as well as the communication skills necessary to interface with external engineering, architectural and construction firms, suppliers, the management team and other organizations within client organizations.
  • Must be able to use A/E and CM cost and/or schedule information to evaluate project status.
  • Must have thorough understanding of different types of contracts (Lump Sum, T&M etc.) and its implications on Project Management and overall project risks.
  • Working knowledge of industry standard software and ERP, Planning & Scheduling, and cost management applications. Experience with Primavera and Microsoft Project is preferred.
  • Must be adept at managing large dataset, preparing trend curves and performance dashboards and performing statistical and financial analysis in MS Excel or equivalent solution.
  • Must have excellent communication and presentation skills.

Additional information

Expected compensation range is between $125,000 - $165,000 yearly depending on skills, experience, and geographical location.
