Job summary

AKS Engineering & Forestry is seeking a Project Archaeologist to join its growing Cultural Resources team in the Pacific Northwest. Based in Oregon or Washington, you will lead fieldwork through the full project lifecycle, coordinate with agencies and clients, and deliver high-quality documentation.

You will apply NHPA Section 106, NEPA, and other regulations, manage field crews, and travel across the West for investigations. Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, or closely related field.
• Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeology and/or History.
• CRM experience directing archaeological investigations and producing agency-ready documentation.
• Strong knowledge of NHPA Section 106, NEPA, SEPA, CEQA and related requirements.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan, lead, and document archaeological investigations and related work.
• Direct field crews and ensure safety, efficiency, and standards compliance.
• Analyze materials and synthesize field, lab, archival, GIS data.
• Prepare technical reports, site records, designs, and evaluations.
• Coordinate with agencies, clients, and stakeholders across projects.
