Job summary

Vierbicher, a civil engineering and planning firm, seeks a Project Accountant to oversee the financial lifecycle of diverse projects. You will manage setup, budgeting, and revenue recognition while partnering with project managers and leadership to ensure profitability.

Responsibilities include billing, accounts receivable, cost tracking, and monthly profitability analysis. A Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance and 4+ years in project accounting are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is required.
• Minimum of 4+ years of experience in project accounting, ideally within the civil engineering, AEC or professional services industry.
• Experience with ERP/accounting software (Deltek Vantagepoint/Vision, Ajera, BST, QuickBooks or NetSuite) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set up new projects, task codes, fee structures, and budgets in the accounting/ERP software per client contracts.
• Monitor project costs, revenues, margins, and burn rates against approved budgets.
• Review contracts, proposals, and change orders to ensure proper billing terms and financial compliance.
• Generate and distribute timely client invoices (Lump Sum, Time & Materials, Percent Complete, Cost Plus).
• Coordinate with Project Managers to review progress, draft prebills, and approve final billings.
• Prepare backup documentation for billing (invoices, timesheets, receipts).
• Track outstanding client invoices and assist with collections and A/R aging reviews.
• Code subconsultant invoices against project PO's; track pay-when-paid conditions and lien waivers.
• Assist with month-end/year-end close, revenue recognition, and unbilled revenue (WIP) analysis.
• Prepare monthly project profitability reports, variance analyses, and cash flow projections.
• Conduct periodic project financial reviews with Project Managers.
