Job summary

Starrett City Older Adult Center in New York is seeking a Program Coordinator to support daily operations, programming, and member services. You will assist with planning activities, maintain records in STARS, prepare calendars and flyers, lead groups, and coordinate with the Program Director.

Strong writing and communication skills, experience with older adults, and flexibility to work evenings/weekends are valued. The role requires organizational ability and teamwork in a community setting.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • One or more years of program coordinator experience highly preferred.
  • Prior group leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience working with older adults, community programs, or social service organizations is a plus.
  • Strong writing, organization, and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with older adults, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to learn program-specific software.
  • Knowledge of Spanish, Russian, or Chinese dialects is a plus.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, set up tables and chairs, and climb stairs as needed.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as assigned by leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Support the daily operations, programming, and member services at Starrett City Older Adult Center.
  • Assist with planning and coordinating activities, providing member support, maintaining program records, and ensuring the center operates effectively while creating a welcoming and supportive environment for older adults.
  • Prepare monthly activity calendars, informational materials, and program flyers.
  • Assist the Program Director and/or Assistant Program Director with developing group programs and securing consultants for programming.
  • Lead and co-lead groups at the Center and/or virtually.
  • Provide coverage for group outings and special activities.
  • Attend community, agency, and staff meetings as designated.
  • Answer in-person and telephone inquiries and act as a resource for members, visitors, and community partners.
  • Provide information and referrals under the supervision of the Program Director and/or Assistant Director.
  • Complete program intakes with new members and maintain accurate, up-to-date demographic information in STARS.
  • Assemble and record statistical data and program information.
  • Prepare letters, reports, flyers, calendars, and other printed materials as needed.
  • Maintain organized program documentation and records.
  • Provide coverage of the Older Adult Center during the absence of the Program Director and Assistant Director.
  • Place orders with food vendors and other suppliers.
  • Assist with maintaining inventory of food and program supplies.
  • Participate in Cooling Center Hours, Make-Up Days, and other emergency operations as required by City funders.
  • Be available to work extended hours or weekends when necessary to support older adult center members and special programming needs.
