Job description

Senior Project Manager

Los Angeles Unified School District | MAAS Companies

The Work
Managing a single project is one thing; managing a $50M+ program while overseeing a team of OARs is another. As a Senior Project Manager at LAUSD, you are the high-level accountability point for some of the most complex construction work in the District.

You aren't just tracking progress; you’re resolving the high-stakes disputes and disagreements that stop projects in their tracks. You’ll be the bridge between the field teams and the District’s upper management, providing the functional direction needed for cost control, contract administration, and quality. You’ll also be the one coordinating with every major branch of the District—from Environmental Health & Safety to Asset Management—to make sure a project doesn’t just get built, but fits into the District’s long-term goals.

What You’ll Own

  • Resolution of complex construction issues and disputes that require high-level negotiation and a deep understanding of the contract.
  • Leadership and performance monitoring of the OARs assigned to your construction projects.
  • Fiscal management of multiple concurrent projects, including verifying payment applications and monitoring variances in the project database.
  • Assessing bid specifications and contract planning to ensure the District's needs are met and the timelines are realistic.
  • Coordinating program activities across District branches like EH&S, Maintenance & Operations, and Technical Support.
  • Developing and recommending internal policies that make the construction process more efficient and effective.

What You Bring

  • 17 years of professional project/construction management experience.

  • 5 years of experience managing large programs with individual projects valued at $50M or more.

  • Prior experience in K-12 facility construction or large-scale public works.

  • A degree in Architecture, Engineering, or CM (OR 20+ years of experience and a CCM credential).

  • The "political fluency" to navigate a large organization and keep multiple departments moving toward the same goal.

Why MAAS

MAAS has spent nearly 40 years earning the trust of 50+ educational institutions across California, managing over $10B in projects. That track record means the work here is stable, funded, and consequential — you're not chasing the next contract.

As a MAAS employee, you're also an owner. The company is 100% employee-owned through an ESOP — a retirement benefit provided at no cost to you, on top of your salary. MAAS is a profitable, well-run organization and our share price has more than doubled since the plan's inception, with continued growth year over year. Your ownership stake builds the longer you stay, and ESOP participants nationally tend to accumulate 2.5x more in retirement savings than employees at non-ESOP companies.

In an industry not known for prioritizing culture, 96% of MAAS employees say it's a great place to work, and 100% say people genuinely care about each other. That's not a perk. It's how the company runs.

Compensation & Ownership

  • Competitive base salary
  • 100% Employee-Owned (ESOP) — provided at no cost to the employee
  • ESOP Safe Harbor contribution of 3% of compensation, vested day one

Retirement

  • ESOP as a long-term wealth-building retirement benefit
  • 401k

Health & Wellness

  • Medical, Dental, Vision (described as very low cost in the sample outreach)

Time Off

  • PTO — 3 weeks

Culture & Growth

  • Great Place to Work certified
  • Room for growth within the organization
  • Positive, team-oriented environment
