  • Minnesota Structural Engineer license with 10+ years in heavy industrial structures (manufacturing, mining).
  • Proficiency with RISA 3D, Ram Structural System, MathCAD, and MS Office.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel, cast-in-place concrete, and precast concrete design.
  • Experience conducting structural condition assessments and design repairs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for proposals, reports, meetings, and client presentations.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%.

As a member of our team, you will work alongside a multi-disciplined team of Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, and Structural) and Architecture professionals to provide an array of services for a diverse portfolio of multi-disciplined projects throughout the country.


As a Senior Professional Engineer, you will lead the mechanical design effort for complex plant/building systems and site operations for heavy industrial sectors, including mining, mineral processing, aggregate, and metals. You will also prepare mechanical plans, specifications, design details and construction documentation. Additionally, you will lead design teams for mechanical and multi-disciplined projects and be responsible for technical, quality, financial, and safety aspects from conception through construction. In addition, you will have the opportunity to be a mentor and share your knowledge and professional experiences to further develop less experienced team members who will work alongside you.

Location and Work Arrangement

Our preference is for this position to be based out of Duluth, MN or Bloomington, MN; however, we will consider candidates residing within greater Minnesota and Wisconsin if experience and qualifications align with the requirements of this position and market development initiatives. TKDA offers flexible hybrid work arrangements, with employees typically working three days in the office and two days remotely, in alignment with business needs. Regular travel to TKDA offices, project locations, industry-specific conferences will be required along with team events for remote candidates to foster collaboration, strengthen relationships, and support project success.


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis.

  • Structural Engineer in the State of Minnesota, with 10 or more years of progressive experience designing heavy industrial structures (ie. manufacturing, mining).

  • Proficiency with RISA 3D or Ram Structural System, MathCAD, and MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Strong working knowledge of structural steel, cast-in-place concrete, and precast concrete design for new construction and expansion, renovation, conversion, and adaptation/reinforcement project types.

  • Experience conducting structural condition assessments of existing structures and preparing plans and specifications for structural repairs.

  • Ability to apply effective written and verbal communication when developing proposals, preparing technical reports, participating in or leading project team meetings, and delivering client presentations.

  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop less experienced professionals with an emphasis on technical design standards, quality control, and/or project management practices.

  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record and flexibility to travel as needed (up to 30%) for team meetings, client consultations, site inspections/visits, construction management duties, etc.; Occasional overnight travel will be required.


Advantageous Qualifications


  • Professional registration in additional states

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit.

  • Previous business development experience, including preparation of proposals and fee estimates, and delivery of capabilities presentations.

  • Previous experience or aspirations to manage multi-disciplined projects.


The listed salary range reflects only the starting base pay range for candidates with 10-20 years of related experience in our Duluth, Minnesota office. Compensation is determined based on technical skills, experience level, and qualifications. Candidates with more experience or different compensation expectations are encouraged to apply. All candidates are evaluated on the full scope of what they bring to the role. The base compensation range for this position out of our Bloomington, MN would be $109,000 - 133,000.
