  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 40%

Responsibilities

  • Own electrical Early Field Failure Analysis for Oura Ring products, from returned unit intake and evidence review through technical disposition, confirmed mechanism, and closure
  • Lead field quality investigations for battery, charging, and power-related issues, including risk assessment, containment and escalation decisions, and the supporting technical rationale for Reliability, Regulatory, and Member Experience
  • Direct non-destructive-first analysis workflows covering received-condition documentation, electrical characterization, ring diagnostics, optical inspection, and imaging prior to any destructive analysis
  • Isolate failure mechanisms across power, battery, charging, sensor, clock, connectivity, interconnect, and leakage-related faults to the component, material, or process level using DMM, oscilloscope, current measurement, thermal imaging, micro-probing, and X-ray/CT
  • Build serial-level evidence packages combining product configuration, hardware and firmware revision, manufacturing genealogy, factory test history, telemetry, and diagnostic records against the member-reported symptom
  • Analyze field, factory, and FA data to establish commonality across manufacturing site, build lot, supplier, component, ring size, hardware and firmware revision, product age, geography, and diagnostic signature
  • Distinguish reported symptom from failed function and confirmed mechanism, documenting supporting and contradicting evidence, remaining open questions, and confidence in the disposition
  • Drive corrective action with CMs and suppliers, including factory containment, process control updates, inspection and test coverage, design and firmware changes, and additional reliability validation
  • Verify corrective action effectiveness against before-and-after field, factory, reliability, or component data prior to closure
  • Feed confirmed field and factory findings into NPI through design and DFMEA reviews, component and supplier selection, test coverage definition, traceability requirements, and reliability planning
  • Partner with Data and Software teams on data ingestion, SQL and Python analysis, dashboards, and triage logic to convert confirmed mechanisms into leading indicators and proactive capture criteria
  • Establish FA methods, standard operating procedures, equipment requirements, and reporting templates, and build repeatable capability across Oura’s regional labs and CM partners
  • Present findings to engineering and quality leadership, clearly separating observation, hypothesis, confirmed mechanism, corrective action, and open risk

Empowering the world starts with living our values and empowering our team. As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work — both in and out of the office. At Oura, our mission is to empower every person to own their inner potential. With our award-winning Oura Ring and app, we help over 3 million people turn insights about sleep, activity, and readiness into healthier, more balanced lives. We believe that starts from within — by creating a culture where our team feels supported, included, and inspired to do their best work. Our values guide how we show up for each other and our community every day. We are looking for a Senior Product Quality Engineer, EE to join our Product Quality team in San Francisco, California.

What you will do:
  • Own electrical Early Field Failure Analysis (EFFA) for Oura Ring products, from returned unit intake and evidence review through technical disposition, confirmed mechanism, and closure
  • Lead field quality and safety investigations for battery, charging, and power-related issues, including risk assessment, containment and escalation decisions, and the supporting technical rationale for Reliability, Regulatory, and Member Experience
  • Direct non-destructive-first analysis workflows covering received-condition documentation, electrical characterization, ring diagnostics, optical inspection, and imaging prior to any destructive analysis
  • Isolate failure mechanisms across power, battery, charging, sensor, clock, connectivity, interconnect, and leakage-related faults to the component, material, or process level using DMM, oscilloscope, current measurement, thermal imaging, micro-probing, and X-ray/CT
  • Build serial-level evidence packages combining product configuration, hardware and firmware revision, manufacturing genealogy, factory test history, telemetry, and diagnostic records against the member-reported symptom
  • Analyze field, factory, and FA data to establish commonality across manufacturing site, build lot, supplier, component, ring size, hardware and firmware revision, product age, geography, and diagnostic signature
  • Distinguish reported symptom from failed function and confirmed mechanism, documenting supporting and contradicting evidence, remaining open questions, and confidence in the disposition
  • Drive corrective action with CMs and suppliers, including factory containment, process control updates, inspection and test coverage, design and firmware changes, and additional reliability validation
  • Verify corrective action effectiveness against before-and-after field, factory, reliability, or component data prior to closure
  • Feed confirmed field and factory findings into NPI through design and DFMEA reviews, component and supplier selection, test coverage definition, traceability requirements, and reliability planning
  • Partner with Data and Software teams on data ingestion, SQL and Python analysis, dashboards, and triage logic to convert confirmed mechanisms into leading indicators and proactive capture criteria
  • Establish FA methods, standard operating procedures, equipment requirements, and reporting templates, and build repeatable capability across Oura’s regional labs and CM partners
  • Present findings to engineering and quality leadership, clearly separating observation, hypothesis, confirmed mechanism, corrective action, and open risk

You are a technical leader who insists on evidence and is comfortable with ambiguity. You understand that a passing functional test is not the same as a robust product, and that the purpose of failure analysis is not to explain a single return but to prevent the same mechanism from reaching future members.

We would love to have you on our team if you have:
  • 7+ years of experience in a Product Quality, Failure Analysis or Manufacturing Quality Engineering role supporting electronic products
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline; advanced degree is a plus
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals across analog and digital circuits, power management, batteries and charging, sensors, clocks, PCBAs, flex circuits, solder joints, and component and interconnect failure behavior
  • Hands‑on experience troubleshooting electronic products at board, subassembly, and component level using electrical measurement and structured fault isolation methods
  • Experience conducting or directing both non‑destructive and destructive failure analysis, with sound judgment on what evidence must be captured before a unit is opened, modified, or sectioned
  • Experience interpreting schematics, layouts, bills of material, component designators, test limits, and electrical specifications
  • Experience with SQL, Python, JMP, Minitab, or comparable tools for data cleaning, hypothesis testing, commonality analysis, metric definition, and communicating uncertainty
  • Experience with consumer electronics, wearables, batteries, or other small, highly integrated products manufactured at high volume
  • Experience working with contract manufacturers and suppliers on process controls, inspection coverage, traceability, test systems, containment, and corrective action
  • Understanding of quality principles and tools such as GRR, SPC, FA/CA, 8D, FMEA and DOEs
  • Understanding of how SMT, soldering, molding, handling, fixturing, test station design, and operator variation can create or mask electrical failures
  • Able to work independently on technically ambiguous problems while engaging Electrical Engineering, Firmware, Process Engineering, Reliability, Supplier Quality, and factory partners at the right time
  • Highly organized with the ability to maintain clear evidence trails and communicate complex technical conclusions through concise written reports, dashboards, and presentations
  • Experience building or operating an in‑house failure analysis laboratory, or training technicians and factory partners to execute repeatable screening procedures, is a plus
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 40%
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary and equity packages
  • Health, dental, vision insurance, and mental health resources
  • An Oura Ring of your own plus employee discounts for friends & family
  • 20 days of paid time off plus 13 paid holidays plus 8 days of flexible wellness time off
  • Paid sick leave and parental leave
  • Oura takes a market‑based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. US locations are categorized into tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. While most offers will be closer to the starting range, successful candidates’ pay will be determined based on job‑related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, internal peer equity, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
  • San Francisco Salary Range: $172,550 - $ 203,000
