About Chesapeake Technology
The role
The Product Manager owns the roadmap across SonarWiz, Fathom and Fathom WAKE. It is a hands‑on role. About a quarter of your time goes to design and development: you will write the specs, draw the screens, and build small pieces of the product yourself when that is the fastest path.
Responsibilities
- Own the Fathom roadmap: decide what ships each quarter, in what order, and why.
- Turn customer and field feedback into specs engineering can build from, working directly with hydrographic surveyors, Navy operators and AUV manufacturers.
- Run the product process for a small engineering team plus contractors: user stories, acceptance criteria, bug triage, release reviews and the backlog.
- Plan SonarWiz releases alongside Fathom
- Design: wireframes, mockups and clickable prototypes in Figma for new Fathom screens, consistent with the existing UI; keep the design system and brand guidelines current.
- Develop: know the codebase well enough to scope work and review pull requests; write scripts to analyze sonar data and reproduce customer issues; ship small front‑end changes yourself; run acceptance testing before releases.
- Partner with sales on demos, trials, pilots and pricing; track usage in production and use it to set priorities.
Required qualifications
- 3+ years as a product manager on a technical B2B product, ideally one that processes geospatial or sensor data.
- Competent in Figma, with a portfolio of screens or flows you drew yourself.
- Clear writer: specs, release notes and customer emails are a large part of the job.
- Comfortable with technical customers; able to hold your own on sonar, navigation and coordinate systems within months.
- U.S. person (citizen or permanent resident. Occasional travel for customer visits, sea trials and defense exercises.
Preferred qualifications
- Hydrographic survey, sonar or marine robotics experience (sidescan, multibeam, sub‑bottom, AUV/UUV operations).
- Familiarity with geospatial formats and coordinate reference systems (GeoTIFF, Zarr, WGS84, UTM).
- Defense software experience (ATOs, IL4 deployments, Navy program offices) or an active U.S. security clearance.
- Health insurance, flexible PTO and professional development. Remote within the US; the New York office is open to anyone who wants to use it.
