Job description

About Upstart

At Upstart, we’re united by a mission that matters: to radically reduce the cost and complexity of borrowing for all Americans. Every day, we bring creativity, experimentation, and advanced AI to reshape access to credit, helping millions move forward financially with clarity and confidence.

As the leading AI lending marketplace, we partner with banks and credit unions to expand access to affordable credit through technology that’s both radically intelligent and deeply human. Our platform runs over one million predictions per borrower using more than 3,000 signals, powering smarter, fairer decisions for millions of customers. But the numbers only hint at the impact. Every idea, every voice, and every contribution moves us closer to a world where credit never stands between people and their financial progress.

We’re proudly digital-first, giving most Upstarters the flexibility to do their best work from wherever they thrive, alongside teammates across 80+ cities in the US and Canada. Digital-first doesn’t mean distant. We’re intentional about in-person connection through team onsites, planning sessions, and moments that spark creativity and trust. And whether you choose to work primarily from home or collaborate in-person from one of our offices in Columbus, Austin, the Bay Area, or New York City, you’ll have the support to work in the way that works best for you.

If you’re energized by tackling meaningful problems, excited to innovate with purpose, and motivated by work that truly matters, we’d love to hear from you.

The Team:

Upstart’s Auto Retail team is bringing Upstart’s AI-powered underwriting combined with best-in-class software to help all Americans get better access, lower rates, and a better process when purchasing a vehicle. Auto lending in the US represents over $600B in annual volume across over 70K dealerships and is used by almost every household in the country, yet has record low process satisfaction, transparency, and credit access. We aim to change that. The team partners across Product, Engineering, Analytics, Machine Learning, Servicing, Fraud, dealer-facing functions and more to improve the experience for lenders, dealers, and consumers.

As a Senior Product Manager at Upstart, you will own the strategy and roadmap for your defined area of ownership within our software platform, Upstart Auto Finance. Your mandate is to turn initial adoption and activation into lasting engagement by building intuitive experiences that help dealership teams see value quickly and choose Upstart for every financing opportunity. You’ll work directly with dealers and partner across Engineering, Design, Analytics, Sales, Implementation, and Dealer Success to solve real workflow challenges and scale adoption across independent and franchise dealerships nationwide.

How you’ll make an impact
  • Own the strategy and roadmap for dealer activation and engagement, translating customer needs and business goals into clear priorities, requirements, and launch plans.
  • Build intuitive consumer and dealership workflow experiences that make Upstart a natural starting point for every financing transaction at a dealership.
  • Identify, develop and build partnerships and integrations with others in the ecosystem to create further value for dealers within our product.
  • Work directly with dealers and customer-facing teams to understand day-to-day challenges, identify barriers to adoption, and turn feedback into product improvements.
  • Partner with Engineering, Design, and external providers to connect Upstart with the tools dealers already use, including customer relationship management and dealer management systems.
  • Define and improve activation, repeat usage, and retention metrics, using quantitative analysis and qualitative insights to prioritize opportunities and measure results.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of product management experience building customer-facing software on teams that move quickly and stay close to customers.
  • A proven track record of driving measurable improvement in activation and engagement with a product as it scales beyond initial product-market fit.
  • Strong product sense, with experience defining and executing multi-quarter roadmaps and owning outcomes from discovery through launch and iteration.
  • Demonstrated ability to simplify complex workflows into intuitive experiences that drive adoption and ongoing engagement.
  • Ability to combine quantitative metrics and qualitative customer insights to make sound decisions, including when information is incomplete.
  • Clear, persuasive communication and strong collaboration skills, with experience working directly with customers and aligning technical and business partners around priorities and tradeoffs.
  • An ownership and growth mindset: comfortable navigating ambiguity, adapting to new information, and continuously improving the product and how your team works.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building B2B software for small or medium-sized businesses, particularly tools used regularly as part of customers’ workflows.
  • Experience with third-party integrations, fintech, lending, or B2B2C products.
