Job description

Senior Product Manager

At root-sustainability we're looking for a Senior Product Manager to join our team.

Full-time · Remote

About the job

As Product Manager, you will own the day-to-day execution and quality of our product roadmap. You’ll work closely with the Product Lead, Customer Success Lead, designers, and developers to turn product strategy, customer problems, and business needs into impactful product improvements.

The Product Lead sets the strategic direction and priorities. Customer Success brings in many of the customer problems and needs. Your role is to critically assess these inputs, understand the underlying problem, decide what should be built, and drive it from idea to release and iteration.

You are not just managing a backlog. You are a critical product thinker and owner who helps ensure that what we build genuinely strengthens our product, our customers, and the company.

Must-have - hard skills
  • 5+ years of experience as a Product Manager or in a similar product role, preferably in a startup or scale-up

  • Experience creating, managing, and adjusting product roadmaps

  • Strong at prioritising and substantiating decisions based on impact, effort, customer value, and strategic value

  • Able to turn complex problems into clear product solutions, features, requirements, epics, and user stories

  • Strong analytical skills and able to quickly understand complex data, calculations, and product logic

  • Experience preparing and leading refinements

  • Experience working closely with design and development throughout the product cycle

  • Comfortable owning feature testing before release and communicating releases clearly, both internally and to customers

  • Able to define what success looks like and use feedback and data to improve features after release

Nice-to-have - hard skills
  • Experience with B2B SaaS, ideally data-driven or technically complex products

  • Affinity with sustainability, LCA, or product footprinting

  • Experience with product tools such as Jira or Linear

  • Experience writing product documentation, such as one-pagers or PRDs

  • Experience with product discovery, user research, or problem validation

Must-have - soft skills
  • Strong product judgement: critically assesses problems and proposed solutions rather than simply turning requests into features

  • Takes full ownership of roadmap execution within the strategic direction set by the Product Lead

  • Makes day-to-day product decisions independently and challenges assumptions when needed

  • Takes responsibility for the impact of product decisions on customers, the product, and the company

  • Pragmatic and able to balance speed, quality, scope, and long-term product health

  • Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information

  • Can identify the underlying problem behind a customer or business request and avoid simply building the requested solution

  • Communicates clearly across Product, Customer Success, Design, Development, and customers

  • Keeps design and development closely aligned throughout the product process

  • Comfortable pushing back when something does not create enough value or is not the right product decision

Nice-to-have - soft skills
  • Strong product sense: understands why we are building something, what good looks like, and when something is good enough

  • Naturally curious and enjoys understanding complex problems

  • Flexible and adaptable when priorities, scope, or roadmap change

  • Commercially aware and understands how product decisions contribute to the success of the company

What success looks like

You will be successful when:

  • The development team always has a clear understanding of what we are building and why

  • Customer and business problems are translated into strong product decisions, not just feature requests

  • The roadmap is executed predictably while remaining flexible when new information emerges

  • Features are well-defined, tested, and released with clear communication

  • You continuously improve the product based on product vision, customer feedback, data, and learnings

  • The product becomes stronger, more scalable, and more valuable to our customers and the business
