Job description

Job Title: Senior Product Designer (Design Systems & E-Commerce Focus)
Location: Remote (U.S. based – CST or EST working hours required)
Employment Type: W2 Contract through 9/15, with high likelihood of extension
Start Date: ASAP

About the Role:

Our client is looking to build their first design system and component library from the ground up—and we’re looking for a senior designer to help lead the charge. You’ll partner closely with engineering to define, build, and maintain a scalable, accessible design system that sets the foundation for all their products. You’ll work alongside the Creative Director, but own much of the execution, documentation, and ongoing evolution of the system.

What You’ll Do:
  • Build reusable components in Figma, define usage patterns, and set up documentation.
  • Work closely with engineering to ensure accurate implementation.
  • Audit and clean up existing design inconsistencies across products.
  • Contribute to our governance workflows so other designers and engineers can collaborate with the system.
  • Support adoption and education across product teams.
  • Balance speed with thoughtfulness—we’re not looking for perfect, we’re looking for progress.
What We’re Looking For:
  • 5–8+ years of product design experience, with at least 2 full 0–1 design systems built (not just UI kits).
  • Deep knowledge of design tokens and scalable system architecture.
  • Strong Figma skills and experience building organized, documented systems.
  • Comfortable in early design maturity environments—things are always moving and changing to reach our target.
  • Confident partnering directly with engineers to ship clean, accurate UI.
Nice to Have:
  • Familiarity with the Shoelace open source library.
  • Comfortable in Storybook and collaborating with frontend engineers on implementation.
  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.0 and accessibility standards.
  • Experience working on eCommerce platforms or B2B software like PIM, PXM, DAM, MDM, or syndication tools is a plus.
  • Curious and always learning, especially around new AI tools that help speed up or organize design system work.

The hourly pay range for this position (dependent on factors including but not limited to client requirements, experience, statutory considerations, and location) is $45.00 to $60.00/hr. Benefits available to full-time employees: medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401k and commuter benefits.
