Job Description

We’re excited to add a Senior Product Designer to our growing team! This role is integral to shaping the development of our upcoming connected Master Lock products. We seek a creative, user-obsessed, and results-oriented designer eager to work at the intersection of software and hardware within the connected home environment.

This position reports directly to the Principal Product Designer. You will support our efforts in building world-class solutions for direct-to-consumer products and business partners, playing a key role in creating smart security products that users love.

Position Location

This role offers a hybrid schedule, with work performed in Deerfield, IL, or San Francisco, CA, with on-site presence expected 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).

Responsibilities

• Utilize your skills in UX design, design thinking, interaction design, prototyping, and visual design to create seamless experiences across digital (mobile, web) and physical (devices) interfaces, based on market and product requirements.
• Own the design process throughout the product lifecycle across multiple areas.
• Leverage quantitative and qualitative data to inform design decisions and suggest additional data sources when needed.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure cohesive product development.
• Advocate for ongoing improvements in user experience.
• Engage in all stages of the design stack: problem understanding, ideation, detailed prototyping, and high-fidelity visuals.
• Maintain documentation of user experience design practices.
• Lead workshops and facilitate cross-functional collaboration, including journey mapping and design critiques.
• Plan and conduct user testing to validate designs.
• Work with partners to develop seamless user experiences across technologies.
• Mentor junior and mid-level designers, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented culture.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of design experience, with at least 2 years focused on IoT products.
• Bachelor’s degree in design, UX/UI, HCI, or equivalent experience.
• Proficiency in Figma, Jira, and experience with design systems.
• Strong interaction design and prototyping skills, including Protopie.
• Excellent visual design abilities for polished outcomes.
• Deep understanding of user-centered design principles.
• Knowledge of Material Design and Apple’s interface guidelines.
• Experience with Swift UI and Jetpack Compose is a plus.
• Experience working independently within an agile team environment.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Proactive in decision-making and problem-solving.
• Ability to think holistically about user experiences across product categories.
• Experience developing user models, journeys, and use cases.
• Knowledge of IoT connectivity, protocols, and security considerations.
• Understanding of electronics and firmware development for IoT devices.
• Familiarity with security protocols and vulnerabilities in IoT devices.
• Mastery of current design tools and openness to adopting new technologies.

Additional Information

Salary range: $115,000 - $140,000 USD (non-California), $140,000 - $170,000 (California). Compensation includes bonuses or incentives, comprehensive benefits, 401(k), product discounts, flexible time off, inclusive benefits, and ERG participation.
