Molex, a global leader in connectivity, is seeking a Senior Product Design Engineer in Lisle, IL. You will lead and contribute to the design of high‑speed connectors, cables, and systems, working cross‑functionally with marketing, manufacturing, and electrical engineering teams to deliver reliable solutions.

You will perform analyses (FEA, DFM, DFMEA), optimize designs for volume manufacturing, and mentor junior engineers while staying ahead of industry trends.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 8+ years in Product Design Engineering for electronic components.
• Experience with welding, stamping, plating, plastic injection molding/insert molding, and connector/cable assemblies.
• Experience designing for volume manufactured products and DFMEA/validation for high-volume.
• Experience with suppliers, materials selection, and complex global manufacturing.
• Data analysis experience with Excel/Minitab/Power BI; CAD proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components.
• Perform analyses and validations using FEA, DFM, NUDD and TA to ensure performance and reliability.

• Source components with vendors to meet cost and quality targets.
• Test and validate prototypes; implement design improvements as needed.
• Follow NPI and PDP processes to develop new products on time.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.

Our Enterprise Solutions business customizes high-speed connectors, cables, and systems within our Datacom Specialty Solutions Division.

As a Senior Product Design Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and contributing to the design and development of high-speed connectors, cables, and systems within our Copper Solutions enterprise division team. In this role you will provide technical expertise in connector, cable design for the exponentially growing data storage systems and telecommunications market. This will be a cross functional role where you will work with marketing, manufacturing, electrical engineering, quality, software, etc.

What You Will Do

• Lead the design and development of electromechanical products or connectors, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, PCB designers, Sourcing, and manufacturing engineers, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components.
• Perform detailed analysis and evaluation of product designs, utilizing tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), DFM, NUDD and TA to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to identify potential design limitations and propose effective solutions.
• Perform engineering calculations, simulations, and analyses to validate design concepts and optimize product performance.
• Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to source components and materials, ensuring compliance with cost and quality targets.
• Conduct thorough testing and validation of prototypes, analyzing test data and implementing design improvements as necessary.
• Follow NPI and PDP process to develop and implement new products per industry standards on time.
• Collaborate closely and directly with customer engineering during product development lifecycle.
• Provide application and technical support to consolidate inputs from product management team, customers, and external consultants into product concepts, prototype sample builds and detailed requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, assisting in their professional development.
• Stay updated with the latest industry trends and advancements, incorporating innovative technologies and methodologies into product designs.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
• 8+ years of experience in Product Design Engineering in electronic components
• Experience with welding, stamping, plating, or plastic injection molding/insert molding, and connector and cable harness assembly
• Experience in leading the design for volume manufactured products
• Experience in DFM, DFMEA, validation and qualification for high volume products.
• Experience in working with suppliers and materials selection
• Experience working with complex supply chain and global manufacturing
• Working knowledge in Tolerance Analysis studies, Data Analysis, preferably using Excel, Minitab, Eztol and/or Power BI
• Proficiency in CAD, preferably in NX, Team Center

What Will Put You Ahead

• Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Six Sigma training/certification
• Experience designing high-speed interfaces, cable and board mount connectors
• Twinax termination, PCB surface mount and compression technologies
• Design Board launches (EON, SMT, compression, etc.)
• High Density Board termination rework process
• Experience with DVP testing

For this role, we anticipate paying $120,000-$150,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
