Job summary

Progressive Design, Inc. in the Richmond, VA area seeks an entrepreneurial Senior Process Engineer for a full-time/direct hire role located in Midlothian, Virginia.

The position combines leadership of complex industrial projects with hands-on design and field oversight. You will develop PFDs and P&IDs, size pumps and heat exchangers, perform mass and energy balances, review submittals, mentor junior engineers, and ensure projects meet schedule, budget, and safety requirements while interfacing

Qualifications

• Chemical Engineering undergraduate degree from ABET accredited school (must).
• 10+ years of heavy industrial experience in design or process engineering roles.
• Virginia Professional Engineer preferred but not required.
• Experience in chemical, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, or bio-processing industries a plus.
• Project management experience.
• Experience working in a multidiscipline engineering consulting firm.
• Process safety experience (PHAs, HAZOPs, Risk Assessment).
• Knowledge of safety relief device code requirements and sizing.

Responsibilities

• Prepare PFDs and P&IDs.
• Size and specify process equipment (pumps, tanks, heat exchangers, etc.).
• Perform piping, utility sizing, and safety relief calculations.
• Review equipment submittals and verify against specs.
• Develop and verify mass and energy balances.
• Visit customer sites for field work and coordinate with clients.
• Develop scopes of work and detailed project estimates.
• Manage scope, schedule, and budget.
