Job summary

HDI Landing Gear, part of Héroux-Devtek, seeks a Senior Process Engineer to sustain and optimize surface finishing operations in its Strongsville plating facility. You will develop, implement, and maintain robust processes to drive continuous improvement while collaborating with process, tooling, and shop floor teams.

You will lead efforts in plating processes, train staff, and support audits, with a focus on chrome, nickel, and cadmium offerings and adherence to BAC, AMS, MIL STD specifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field is required or desired.
  • Experience with hard chrome plating, cadmium-titanium plating, and nickel plating.
  • Knowledge of plating processes and NADCAP requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day shop floor production activities for hard chrome, cadmium-titanium, and nickel plating.
  • Evaluate process weaknesses and implement solutions.
  • Provide technical support to operators, lab, and management.
  • Collaborate with Tooling Process Engineer to test and improve tooling and fixtures.
  • Improve efficiency and reduce costs and cycle times in electro-plating processes.
  • Develop and revise surface finishing techniques and work instructions.
  • Implement new materials, processes, or technologies per specifications.
  • Develop training programs for the Strongsville facility and train employees as needed.
  • Internally certify operators for each surface finishing process.
  • Lead process qualification with clients and participate in audits (AS9100/NADCAP).

Information on the division:

Located in Strongsville, the 90+ employee facility (100,000 sq. ft.) is one of Héroux-Devtek’s centers of excellence for the final assembly of landing gear.

As part of the Central Division, you will lead P&L responsible for critical machining operations of major commercial aircraft programs such as the Boeing 777 and Embraer E-2, and important military programs such as F-18, F-35, C-17 and C-130.

Summary:

The Senior Process Engineer will sustain and optimize surface finishing operations within our plating facility. This role focuses on developing, implementing, and maintaining robust processes to drive continuous improvement. You will collaborate closely with other process engineers, tooling engineers, and shop floor personnel.

Main responsibilities:
  • Support day-to-day shop floor production activities revolving around hard chrome plating, cadmium-titanium plating and nickel plating.
  • Evaluate and determine process weaknesses and create solutions.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to grit blast, plating, and grinder operators, lab, and management.
  • Partner with Tooling Process Engineer to test new tooling and improve existing tooling and fixtures.
  • Optimize work methods, processes, and tooling to improve efficiency and decrease operational costs and turn times for electro-plating process.
  • Develop and revise surface finishing techniques and work instructions to facilitate production.
  • Work with process specifications and implementation of new materials, processes, or technologies.
  • Develop training programs from existing sources tailored for Strongsville facility needs.
  • Assist in training of other employees as needed.
  • Evaluate and internally certify operators for each surface finishing process.
  • Lead activities necessary for process qualification with clients.
  • Participate in internal and external process audits, such as for AS9100 and NADCAP.
  • Accredited University or College degree in technical field is desired.
  • 5 years experience in manufacturing (ideally aerospace), specifically in surface finishing/plating.
  • Experience with process implementation and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of plating processes (chrome, nickel, cadmium), specifications and NADCAP requirements.
  • Understand and implement client process specifications such as BAC, AMS and MIL STD.
  • Understand and interpret complex engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Experience training shop personnel.
  • Ability to write technical procedures and training documents.
  • Basic understanding of statistics and chemistry as a tool to evaluate process performance.
