Job summary

Ember Grey in Oklahoma seeks a Senior Process Engineer to join a refinery. You will provide process engineering support, optimise operations, and lead capital project scopes. Use PRO/II, HYSYS, or ProMax to evaluate scenarios and support process safety analyses.

You will work with cross-functional teams to improve safety, reliability, efficiency, and refinery margins, while mentoring less experienced engineers and coordinating with external partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering required.
• 8+ years of engineering experience preferred, with strong refinery process engineering experience.
• Experience across a broad range of refinery process unit technologies.
• Strong understanding of refinery operations, process optimisation, troubleshooting, and process design.
• Experience with capital and operating cost estimating and economic analysis.
• Experience participating in or leading PHA/HAZOP/What-If or Fault Tree Analysis studies.
• Working knowledge of MOC/HAZOP/PSV/SOL/IOW development and evaluation.
• Experience with process modelling and simulation software such as PRO/II, HYSYS, or ProMax.
• Strong ability to interpret and create/edit P&IDs and PFDs.
• Experience developing equipment specifications and evaluating process technologies and vendor proposals.

Job description

Seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to join a refinery in Oklahoma. This is a technical process engineering role focused on supporting refinery operations through process optimisation, troubleshooting, process safety, and capital project development. The successful candidate will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Safety, Environmental, Controls, Economics, and external engineering partners to improve refinery safety, reliability, efficiency, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide process engineering support to refinery operations, including monitoring, troubleshooting, optimisation, and technical support for assigned process units
• Identify and implement process improvements that enhance safety, environmental performance, reliability, efficiency, and refinery margins
• Develop and execute small capital projects and support the development of scopes for larger capital projects
• Perform process engineering studies, including material and energy balances, process modelling, equipment evaluation, and economic analysis
• Utilise process simulation software such as PRO/II, HYSYS, or ProMax to evaluate unit operations and process scenarios
• Participate in or lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), including HAZOP, What-If studies, and Fault Tree Analysis
• Support the development and evaluation of MOC, HAZOP, PSV, SOL, and IOW requirements
• Review and develop P&IDs, PFDs, equipment specifications, and other engineering documentation
• Work closely with Operations, Controls, Maintenance, Safety, Environmental, Economics, and Purchasing teams to resolve technical issues and improve refinery performance
• Interface with outside consultants, engineering contractors, equipment vendors, and industry groups
• Evaluate process technologies, equipment options, vendor proposals, and technology selections for capital projects
• Participate in equipment inspections, process safety reviews, engineering design reviews, and Management of Change activities
• Support refinery turnarounds, including technical troubleshooting and, where required, 24-hour shift coverage
• Assist with the development and monitoring of Key Process Indicators and other process monitoring tools
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced Process Engineers and technicians
• Help prioritise process engineering projects and activities in line with overall refinery requirements
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure engineering activities comply with environmental, regulatory, and company requirements

Requirements

• 8+ years of combined refinery process engineering and refinery operations experience
• Experience supporting multiple refinery process units and technologies
• Previous experience developing and executing refinery capital improvement projects
• Strong process optimisation and margin improvement experience
• Experience working with engineering consultants, contractors, vendors, and technology providers
• Experience mentoring Process Engineers and supporting technical development within an engineering team
• Experience supporting refinery turnarounds and providing field-based engineering support
