Job description

Niron Magnetics is scaling the world’s first advanced manufacturing process for the mass production of permanent magnets powered by its breakthrough material formulation. The company’s proprietary magnet technology based on Iron Nitride enables magnets that are inherently high magnetization, free of rare earths and other critical materials, and will drive innovation in various industries. Niron Magnetics is comprised of a team of professionals with a desire to make a positive impact on the global community. We were named one of “America's Top GreenTech Companies” for 2024 and 2025 by TIME Magazine and the “Innovation of the Year” at the 2025 mHUB Fourth Revolution Awards.

Our team is made up of people who think big, dare to innovate, and strive to impact the planet through technological innovation for our customers. Ready to learn alongside amazing people, solve complex problems, and leave a legacy? Join our team.

What you’ll do

Niron is seeking a Process Development Engineer to conceive, build, and optimize innovative powder processing technologies within fluidized bed reactors. You will play a hands-on role in developing new processes and operating our pilot-scale production systems. Our pilot facility is a dynamic engineering environment where continuous experimentation and system improvement are core aspects of the work.

This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing pre-revenue company where you will take ownership of critical engineering projects right away, with the potential to grow into broader technical and team leadership responsibilities over time.

  • Scale up and qualify powder production processes by collaborating with the R&D team to transfer and adapt new processes from lab to pilot production
  • Lead experiments, equipment modifications, and system upgrades to advance production quality and throughput
  • Work closely with internal teams and external vendors to design, procure, install, and qualify upgrades to production equipment
  • Mentor and support pilot operators and technicians in daily operations and best practices
  • Develop and maintain critical process documentation, including SOPs and work instructions
  • Track and control key process parameters using Statistical Process Control (SPC) or similar techniques
  • Perform all work in alignment with Niron’s safety program and operational standards
  • Support the transition from R&D and pilot operations toward high-volume production, including opportunities to contribute to plant design and scale-up planning

What we’re looking for

  • B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Senior, Staff or above Process Engineer
  • Hands-on professional experience developing, operating, or optimizing processes at any scale — from lab development to pilot or production environments
  • Experience transitioning new manufacturing processes from R&D to production through stage gate approach
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to drive projects independently from concept through implementation
  • Commitment to working safely and promoting a safety-first culture in experimental and operational environments
  • Strong interpersonal communication, prioritization, organizational skills
  • Strong reporting skills with ability to concisely communicate the meaning of data
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (less than 10%)
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 25 lbs.

Nice to have

  • PhD. in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Experience working with fluidized bed reactors, gas-solid reaction systems, or gas-phase unit operations
  • Experience with powder characterization, handling, flow behavior, or processing technologies
  • Practical knowledge of process modeling and basic engineering calculations, including material and energy balances, flow dynamics, or equipment sizing
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), Six Sigma, or other structured process improvement methodologies
  • Experience managing, mentoring, training, or coordinating activities of technicians, operators, or junior engineers

Our pay and benefits

  • Salary range: $100,000 - $130,000 annually, depending on experience, education and skills
  • Equity position in Niron via stock option grant
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401k plan with company match
  • Paid vacation, sick time, and holidays
  • Experience in a fun, high-performing, manufacturing environment
