Job summary

National Probation Service in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior Probation Officer to support the Head of Operational Function and provide leadership within a Local Delivery Unit or other operational unit.

You will manage and lead staff to the required standard, support other teams during absences, and contribute to public protection through governance, performance data use, and collaboration with partners.

Qualifications

• Manage financial resources and authorise expenditure within limits.
• Represent the NPS with partners and stakeholders as required.
• Facilitate effective communication between management and external partners.
• Participate in the LDU/Operational Unit Management Team.
• Undertake delegated areas of responsibility as needed.
• Demonstrate pro-social modelling and safeguarding duties.
• Work in line with NPS/HMPPS aims and values.

Responsibilities

• To provide effective management and leadership to the team.
• To be accountable for the quality delivery of good practice and team performance improvement within policy and national standards.
• To ensure that all team resources, including interventions, are deployed cost effectively and provide best value.
• To ensure staff meet the requirements of the NPS contract with HMPPS, CRCs and local plans.
• To access, interpret, analyse and apply performance data to maximise team performance.
• To manage staff development, issues of underperformance, attendance and health and safety.
• To ensure offender managers manage risk and meet public protection standards.
• To contribute to public protection through multi-agency arrangements and case reviews.
• To promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement to service delivery.
• To manage financial resources for the area and authorise expenditure within limits.
• To provide leadership in work with partners and represent the NPS to stakeholders.
• To facilitate effective communication between LDU management and internal/external partners.
• To participate in corporate management as a member of the management team.
• To undertake delegated responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Operational Function.
• Demonstrate pro-social modelling and safeguarding duties.
• Carry out safeguarding children duties in line with policies.
