What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a highly motivated R&D Electronics Engineer with a diverse skill set to support the surveillance activities of electronic components, including capacitors, microcircuits, resistors, and diodes. In this pivotal role, you will spearhead the testing of electronic components, analyze test data, and prepare annual component assessment reports (CAR). You will collaborate closely with the system surveillance team and engineers and technologists at 7640 to develop innovative methodologies and testing capabilities for electronic components. Additionally, you will engage with subject matter experts (SMEs) across Sandia and the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC) for advanced troubleshooting and failure analysis of nuclear deterrence electronics. This position offers opportunities to deepen your understanding of legacy components while applying innovative thinking for advanced development.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

Conduct electronics testing, provide SME expertise, perform materials or chemical analysis and optimization, structural analysis, thermal analysis, and project leadership, depending on your skills and interests.

Prepare process documentation and reports for customers

Support a multidisciplinary team as we expand our surveillance responsibilities.

Co-develop, refine, and articulate a vision for the future needs of electronic surveillance to better support the nuclear deterrence mission.

Collaborate with components and systems engineers, as well as SMEs across Sandia and KCNSC colleagues, to ensure comprehensive technical characterization through rigorous testing and analysis.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Moderate travel may be required.

About Our Team:

The mission of the 7646 Hi-Rel High-Reliability Surveillance, Technology Advancement, and Radiation Survivability (STARS) department is to deliver unparalleled technical expertise and leadership in the fields of surveillance, technology advancement, and radiation survivability for electronic components. We are committed to engineering innovative solutions and fostering strong partnerships with stakeholders to ensure the reliable use of both custom and commercial products throughout their entire lifecycle, particularly in support of national security objectives.

Our team conducts comprehensive surveillance of components deployed in Nuclear Deterrence systems and innovates tailored solutions to address future requirements. We collaborate closely with other departments within 7640 to fulfill stakeholder needs, whether by providing critical data, offering guidance on technologies for system lifecycle management, performing radiation effects testing, monitoring components in operational systems, or exploring new technologies to meet emerging challenges. We engage with both new and legacy systems teams, as well as internal and external radiation effects resources.

Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

EEO:

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
