Job summary

Scion Technology is seeking a Principal Staff Engineer, Web Platform to serve as a senior technical leader within our engineering organization. This is a highly hands-on role focused on building, operating, and scaling high-traffic ecommerce web platforms in a fast-moving production environment.

Reporting directly to the VP of Engineering, this engineer will architect, develop, troubleshoot, and maintain our LAMP-based web applications and AWS infrastructure.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience building and operating large-scale web applications.
• Hands-on experience with the LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP).
• Strong AWS & cloud operations expertise in production environments.
• Experience with ecommerce/high-traffic websites and reliability.
• Ability to diagnose production issues under pressure and drive remediation.
• Experience collaborating with globally distributed teams.
• Understanding of CI/CD, testing, observability, and code reviews.

Responsibilities

• Full-Stack Platform Engineering: design, develop, and maintain scalable features and services for a high-traffic ecommerce platform with reliability and operational excellence.
• Production Operations & Incident Response: serve as a senior escalation point and lead root-cause analysis.
• AWS Infrastructure Ownership: manage deployment architecture, scaling, observability, security, and cost efficiency.
• High-Scale Performance Optimization: improve uptime, latency, and system resilience.
• Cross-Functional Technical Leadership: partner with Product, Design, Ops, and Customer Experience teams.
• Global Engineering Collaboration: coordinate with offshore teams and align architectural direction.
• Code Quality & Engineering Standards: enforce reviews, testing, docs, and best practices.
• Technical Mentorship & Leadership: provide hands-on guidance across the engineering org.
