Job summary

Enercon Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced Substation Engineer to design and draft substation layouts, perform protection and grounding analyses, and fine-tune relay settings to ensure safe, reliable grid operation.

You will collaborate with engineers across disciplines and support field teams during construction. The role requires at least 6 years in substation engineering, proficiency with MicroStation/AutoCAD, and a willingness to travel to client sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited university.
  • Minimum of 6 years of Substation engineering experience focused on physical design.
  • Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD; familiar with NESC and IEEE codes.

Responsibilities

  • Substation Design & Drafting: develop electric substation drawings including General Arrangements, Elevations, Conduit Plans/Details, Grounding Plans/Details, Foundation Plans, Lightning Protection plans, and control building layouts.
  • Engineering Analysis & Calculations: perform substation design calculations and analyses such as ground grid, lightning protection, voltage drop, and conduit fill.
  • Technical Documentation & Specifications: develop technical equipment and construction specifications and work scopes.
  • Collaboration & Quality Assurance: work with peers to ensure accurate and on-time delivery of electrical design.
  • Field Support: provide on-site technical support for ENERCON clients during construction and commissioning as required.

Responsibilities

  • Substation Design & Drafting: Develop electric substation drawings, including General Arrangements, Elevations, Conduit Plans/Details, Grounding Plans/Details, Foundation Plans, Lightning Protection plans, and control building layouts. Work closely with the Civil Engineering department to develop substation foundation and structure detail drawings.
  • Engineering Analysis & Calculations: Perform substation design calculations and analysis such as ground grid analysis and design, lightning protection, voltage drop, and conduit fill.
  • Technical Documentation & Specifications: Develop technical equipment and construction specifications and work scopes.
  • Collaboration & Quality Assurance: Work closely with peers to ensure accurate and on‑time delivery of electrical design that meets client and industry standards, specifications, and good engineering practices.
  • Field Support: Provide on‑site technical support for select ENERCON clients during construction and commissioning as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in Substation engineering, with a primary focus on executing substation physical design projects.
  • Familiarity with substation physical design parameters and associated information needed to complete design.
  • Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD.
  • Strong familiarity with NESC, IEEE, and other applicable codes and standards.
  • Willingness to enter energized electric substations with proper training and PPE.
  • Must be self‑driven in time management to meet deadlines and provide accurate deliverables, with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must be proficient with typical office software including Microsoft Windows and Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Willingness to travel for client site visits and project meetings.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in electric utility industry, preferably in a fast‑paced consulting environment.
  • 500kV substation engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, with active NCEES record for reciprocity.
  • Field testing/commissioning experience.
  • AutoCAD Electrical design experience.
Compensation Range

USD $93,100.00 - USD $170,000.00 /Yr.
