Senior Principal Software Engineer

The Software Engineering team delivers next-generation application enhancements and new products for a changing world. Working at the cutting edge, we design and develop software for platforms, peripherals, applications, and diagnostics using the most advanced technologies, tools, software engineering methodologies, and collaboration with internal and external partners.

What you'll achieve

As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering Linux solutions on our Industrial client product portfolio (Desktop, Notebook, Workstation, etc.). You will collaborate with colleagues across Dell to position Dell as a leader in this space, working with technical providers to resolve issues and influence new feature development.

Key Responsibilities

This is a new role within Dell's Client Platform Software Engineering organization, focused on Linux Operating Systems. You will be responsible for advanced engineering in developing technologies for modern client solutions shipped with new client products. Additionally, you will serve as the lead strategist for a collection of technologies that constitute a solution.

  • Focus on Front-End and Next-Generation Releases
  • Engage with CTO, platform System Architects, Product Marketing, and Front End Core Teams
  • Gather platform and industry requirements for next-generation platforms and/or software to develop detailed NUDDs (New Unique Different and Difficult analysis)
  • Collaborate with other Architecture Teams and partners to define Linux OS impact on BIOS, Firmware, or Application Software releases
  • Participate in industry forums
  • Engage early with third-party partners
  • Lead innovation and develop opportunities for patent engagement, including open source activities within the Linux community
  • Refine requirements during front-end phases and develop architectures to deliver these requirements
  • Possess coding knowledge with the ability to develop concept code, POCs, etc.
Essential Requirements
  • 12+ years of experience with Linux OS, device drivers, or related system technologies on ARM-based platforms
  • Architect-level experience in developing or designing key elements of Linux OS or solutions interacting extensively with the Linux kernel on ARM platforms
  • Deep understanding of Linux OS components, optimization for power/performance, and proficiency with code profiling tools
  • Background in writing low-level device drivers and streamlining code for performance and maintainability
  • Development skills in C, C++, and C#, with good understanding of software update technologies
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience contributing to open source projects, such as Linux kernel or Gnome
  • Strong vendor management, leadership, and communication skills
Compensation

Dell offers a salary range of $191k - $248k, committed to fair and equitable practices.
