About the Role...

Valo is looking for a Senior Principal Scientist to play a pivotal role in evaluating and prioritizing drug targets for obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases identified using Valo’s human-centric Opal computational platform. This position requires deep expertise in the biology of obesity or cardiovascular diseases, a background in drug discovery, and a passion for translating human data insights to develop new therapies for complex diseases. You will be responsible for reviewing human evidence discovered using Valo’s computational platform and generating expert-driven insights contributing to the prioritization of candidate targets. As target champion and field expert, you will be responsible for delivering target data packages and presenting evidence and rationale for prioritization to internal and external stakeholders. You will contribute to the continuous improvement of the target evaluation and prioritization process by innovating and closely collaborating with subject matter experts, computational scientists, and engineers. You will participate as subject matter expert in the development of research hypotheses that will shape Valo’s target discovery strategy.

What You’ll Do…

Your primary areas of responsibility will be:

1. Comprehensively evaluate candidate targets, including disease associations and druggability, and develop target data packages
2. Generate proposals for target prioritization in close collaboration with data scientists and other subject matter experts
3. Provide thought leadership and guidance on obesity, T2D, and cardiovascular diseases biology, staying abreast of emerging trends and advancements in the field
4. Generate design proposal and feasibility assessment for target validation using Valo’s tissue and cellular disease models in collaboration with Valo’s tissue and cell model experts and/or leveraging CRO
5. Contribute to improvements of target discovery and prioritization processes
6. Provide guidance and feedback on research proposals aimed at discovering targets for obesity or cardiovascular diseases

What You Bring…

1. A PhD in Biological Sciences, or related fields with 10+ years of experience and deep expertise in one or more of the following areas: obesity, cardiovascular diseases, inflammation, metabolism
2. 5+ years of experience in drug discovery and track record of impactful contributions to drug discovery programs and/or target evaluation and/or validation
3. Strong oral and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
4. Experience in successfully collaborating with data scientists/computational biologists to achieve specific goals
