Job summary

Monarch Quantum in San Diego seeks a Senior Principal Robotics Software Engineer to help build our robotics foundation from the ground up. You will own planning and control software across the stack and collaborate with leaders in a fast-paced startup.

The role emphasizes hands-on development, real-time driver layers, and integration with fleet management. Expect to mentor engineers, contribute to testing and documentation, and push for high reliability on physical hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Robotics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years building robotics software with end-to-end ownership of motion planning or controls.
• Mentor engineers and influence technical direction beyond your own work.
• Startup or fast-paced tech background is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build motion and trajectory planning for pick and place tasks.
• Develop kinematics, reachability, and motion planning for robotic manipulators.
• Own the driver layer connecting to robot hardware in real time.
• Advance the stack with learning-based methods and sim-to-real training.
• Set technical direction for the robotics software stack and integration.
• Mentor engineers, enforce code quality and safety practices.
• Write unit tests and validation suites for reliability.
• Collaborate with hardware and process engineers on real hardware.
• Lead code reviews and maintain documentation.
• Maintain calibration procedures and system interfaces.
• Grow team competency through mentorship and initiative.
