Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories seeks a Cleared Senior/Principal RD Mechanical Engineer to lead the Explosive Component Production Product Realization Team onsite in New Mexico. You will oversee end-to-end technical scope, schedules, and deliverables for high-reliability explosive components, coordinating with design, manufacturing, and external suppliers to ensure safe, rigorous production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and five years of directly relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and engineering experience.
• Active DOE Q clearance, or equivalent, is required to start.
• Experience leading Product Realization Teams and transitioning designs to full-scale production.

Responsibilities

• Own the PRT end-to-end technical scope, schedule, and deliverables with baseline commitments.
• Lead cross-functional PRT meetings, drive decisions, track actions, and manage configuration records.
• Build and status resource-loaded schedules (P6) and manage budgets/WBS with Project Controls.
• Coordinate with Process Eng. and Technologists to prove manufacturing processes on the floor.
• Guide hardware through build cycles to achieve QE, FPU milestones and QERs.
• Apply data-driven engineering methods (DOE, SPC) to optimize yield and reliability.
• Participate in DFM/MFD reviews with Design Agency to resolve producibility challenges.
• Author product/process definitions and specifications in enterprise systems (PRIME/eDPM).
• Mentor team members and foster safety-focused, high-rigor production environments.
