Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories seeks an Electronics Technologist to support Surface Mounting Technologies, rapid prototype fabrication, cable fabrication, and QA. This role delivers design solutions for complex fabrication builds to transfer into manufacturing.

On a daily basis, you will develop test scripts, perform SMT and AM fabrication, and contribute to harnessing and cabling efforts for Nuclear Deterrent programs. DOE clearance is required where applicable.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electrical Technology or equivalent; or 4 years of related experience.
  • Experience operating and maintaining electronic fabrication equipment incl. SMT/PCB tooling.
  • Experience using test equipment, meters, diagnostic devices, or encapsulation gear.
  • Ability to read electrical/mechanical schematics and build to print designs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop engineering test scripts for QC acceptability of electrical assemblies.
  • Address nonconformance and document work activities; train in lessons learned.
  • Perform developmental fabrication in SMT PWAs using Pick-n-place and solder platforms.
  • Perform additive manufacturing tasks: work order interpretation, setup, maintenance, and operation.
  • Contribute to complex harnessing and cabling design-for-manufacturability turnover.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an Electronics Technologist to support development efforts related to Surface Mounting Technologies, Rapid Prototype Fabrication processes, Cable Fabrication, and Quality Assurance that provides design solutions to complex fabrication builds to be transferred into manufacturing processes and production agencies.

On any given day, you may be called on to:
  • Develop engineering test scripts for the QC acceptability of electrical assemblies, address nonconformance, train to lessons learned and uphold departments quality plan, document work activities and work in a team environment
  • Perform assigned developmental fabrication techniques in the areas of Surface Mount Technologies (SMT) Printed Wiring Assemblies PWAs utilizing various tooling platforms like Pick-n-place, selective solder platforms, BGA systems and X-Ray CT
  • Perform assigned developmental fabrication techniques in the areas of Additive Manufacturing (AM) to include work order receipt and interpretation, customer interfacing, build set-up, general printer maintenance, and printer operations
  • Perform assigned developmental fabrication techniques for design for manufacturability turnover in complex harnessing and cabling efforts for unique Nuclear Deterrent as well as various Sandia Partnership programs
  • Use and maintain IPC certification in acceptability of electronic assemblies as an SME Technical Trainer, provide hands on technical subject matter expertise to the departments apprenticeship curriculum objectives as a Trainer
Salary Range:

$74,700 - $144,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:
  • Associate's degree in Electrical Technology or relevant discipline; or equivalent (No degree + 4 years of experience)
  • Experience operating and maintaining electronic fabrication equipment, including platforms like Pick-n-place, selective solder platforms, BGA systems, or X-Ray CT
  • Experience using characterization tools including electronic component tester platforms, test sets, meters, diagnostic equipment, or encapsulation equipment
  • Experience in electrical and mechanical schematic reading as in build to print designs
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
  • Bachelor¿s Degree in electrical engineering or Electronic Technology
  • Currently certified IPC Trainer
  • Experience in Surface Mount Technologies SMT, Printed Wiring Assemblies PWA, Ball Grid Array

  • Experience with:
  • Additive Manufacturing
  • Complex R&D cabling and harness fabrication, testing
  • Hands on X-Ray CT systems and operations
  • Highly experienced in electromechanical fabrication concepts and techniques to support R&D projects
  • Experience in Pick-N-Place platforms, Solder flow ovens, BGAs for developmental prototyping
  • Hands on experience in electronic assembly in support of research programs using laboratory
  • equipment and formal processes
  • Experience with additive poly-based tooling platforms
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Good communication and record keeping skills
About Our Team:

Electronic Fabrication Department, 02636, provides Sandia with manufacturing technology in packaging of prototype electronic systems through capabilities that include product design, fabrication, inspection, testing, and installation. The department supports Sandia engineering by identifying and meeting customer requirements for the design to application of customized products, through the use of effective and efficient processes.
