Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking an Optical Engineer to provide advanced technical support with minimal direction in the development and realization of space based optical sensors, focusing on optical design, fabrication, and assembly.

On any given day you may develop conceptual designs, analyze optical problems, perform calculations, and independently design, fabricate and assemble complex hardware using Zemax, Code V or OSLO.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five years of directly relevant experience or equivalent combination.
• Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual and detail designs of optical hardware for optical system applications.
• Identify and provide solutions to complex optical problems using creativity and judgment.
• Perform technical calculations and analyze cost, schedule, and materials.
• Use design and scientific programs to produce supporting documentation.
• Independently design, fabricate and assemble complex optical hardware.
• Experience with optical raytracing software Zemax, Code V, or OSLO.
• Align with ES&H regulations and perform duties safely on site.
