Senior Principal Engineering Support Specialist

Overview
General Dynamics Mission Systems, Inc. has a vacancy for a Senior Principal Engineering Support Specialist. This role is located remotely in the United States and requires a Bachelor’s or Technology degree in Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience) and significant experience in engineering leadership and technical analysis. The position may involve work on highly advanced and potentially classified technologies and requires the ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret clearance (Top Secret possible) and U.S. citizenship.
Responsibilities
- Serve as prime consultant and external spokesperson for the organization on policies, programs, capabilities, and long-range goals.
- Monitor and review operational budgets, schedules, and manpower requirements; develop, analyze, troubleshoot and provide technical skills during research and/or product development.
- Perform research and engineering laboratory functions including layout, building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing and modification of electronic or electro-mechanical devices, assemblies, subsystems, and systems.
- Formulate and recommend corrective action measures such as schedule revisions, manpower adjustments, fund allocations, and work requirements.
- Lead and collaborate with project teams; apply advanced technologies (AI, Blockchain, AR/VR, Cloud Native, Quantum) to solve customer missions in cyber, RF, undersea, interstellar contexts.
- Participate in design reviews, supplier interactions, quality audits, and Failure Review Board activities as applicable to PWB design and related standards.
- Ensure compliance with IPC-A-600, AS9102 and other PWB standards during product development efforts.
- Provide cost, schedule, and proposal estimates; travel as needed to meet customers and suppliers.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s of Science or Technology degree in Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience); or Master’s degree with 8+ years of relevant experience; 10+ years of relevant experience if without Master’s degree.
- Recognized SME in multiple adjacent disciplines/fields.
- Strong knowledge of electrical engineering concepts, principles, and theories; contributing to new designs and methods.
- Proven leadership skills to guide work groups and programs to successful completion.
- Ability to travel as needed.
- Ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance; eligible for Top Secret; U.S. citizenship is required for access to classified information.

Representative Duties and Tasks
- Assist design engineers with PWB material selection, layer stack-up, and fabrication to meet electrical design and DoD reliability requirements.
- Collaborate with project engineers, customers, QA, and suppliers to ensure compliance with flow-down requirements.
- Review new design PWB requirements and validate against supplier process capabilities.
- Develop PWB procurement drawings, trade studies, analyses, and other documentation.
- Participate in Failure Review Board (FRB) activities as a technical expert on PWB design, construction, and failure modes.
- Engage in supplier quality and capability audits; initiate corrective and preventive actions as needed.
- Apply IPC-A-600, AS9102 and other PWB standards during product development.
- Work with Project Leaders, design engineers, and other professionals across multiple project teams.
- Generate cost, schedule, and proposal estimates; support travel to meet with customers and suppliers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Very strong understanding of electrical engineering concepts, fundamentals, and theories; capable of contributing to new designs and manufacturing methods. Strong hardware design engineering processes knowledge; accountable for planning, scheduling, cost and risk analyses for small to medium programs or major electrical subsystems within larger programs. Influential in requirements analysis, functional and performance analysis, interface definition, and verification of electrical components, equipment, and systems.
Salary note: USD 160,500 – 178,700 per year; actual pay may vary by location and experience.
