Job summary

UC Office of the President is seeking a Principal Accountant (General Accountant 5) to lead UCOP's accounting function, including close processes, asset tracking, and financial reporting. The role emphasizes independence, strategic process development, and liaison with auditors.

The position reports to the Executive Director of Budget, Financial Planning & Analysis, with collaboration across Systemwide Controller's Office and other units. A hybrid work arrangement is offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or related area.
• 10+ years progressively responsible accounting experience.
• Experience with GAAP, GASB, and FASB.
• Experience in higher-education, not-for-profit or government environments (preferred).
• Advanced Excel and financial analysis skills.

Responsibilities

• Financial Reporting: oversee preparation of financial statements and reporting.
• Internal controls & reconciliation: maintain ledgers and ensure data integrity.
• Operational accounting: monthly close, project accounting, GL transactions.
• Capital projects & fixed assets: manage entries and capitalization.
• Technology implementation: oversee Oracle updates and data integrity.
