Job summary

Randstad is seeking an experienced Senior Press Technician/Engineering Technician to join our engineering team in a fast-paced, highly automated stamping environment. You will support new model launches, tooling optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives across multiple facilities.

The role requires 3–5 years as a Tool Maker or Tooling Technician in large transfer press environments, with CAD reading, GD&T knowledge, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.

  • Lead tryouts to ensure production speed, formability, accuracy, and die performance.
  • Collaborate with Program Management, Quality, Tool & Die, Assembly Engineering, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Identify material reduction and cost-saving opportunities and drive process improvements.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Press Technician/Engineering Technician to join our engineering team. This role is ideal for a candidate with a strong, hands-on tool and die or tooling technician background who is ready to apply their expertise in an engineering capacity. You will support new model launches, tooling optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives in a fast-paced, highly automated manufacturing environment.

Qualifications
  • Required Experience:3–5 years of experience as a Tool Maker or Tooling Technician in a large transfer press (1,500-ton or larger) sheet metal stamping environment.
  • Technical Skills:
    • strong understanding of metal stamping processes and die functionality.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
    • Ability to open and review CAD models (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
    • Experience using precision measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators).
    • Ability to diagnose and set die clearances for form, draw, pierce, and notch/cut dies.
    • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) and material properties/heat treatment.
    • Experience using Circle Grid Analysis to evaluate formability.
  • Education:Technical Diploma or Engineering Degree is preferred; equivalent hands‑on experience will be strongly considered.
Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for tooling buyoffs, supplier visits, and project support.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

As a Metal Stamping Press Engineer, you will play a key role in the successful launch, transfer, and optimization of stamping dies while supporting manufacturing operations.

  • Tooling Lifecycle Management:Attend new tool buy-offs, manage tooling transfers between facilities, and lead tryouts to ensure optimal performance (production speed, formability, dimensional accuracy, and die performance).
  • Collaboration:Work closely with Program Management, Quality, Tool & Die, Assembly Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to achieve project milestones and successful production launches.
  • Process Improvement:Continuously improve stamping processes to increase productivity and profitability, including identifying material reduction and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Technical Support:Communicate regarding tooling and production concerns, coordinate outsourced products and engineering services, and provide feedback to improve die design standards.
The essential functions of this role include:

  • standing for 8 hours at one time
  • working up to 8 hrs of overtime per week
