We are currently seeking aSenior Preconstruction Partner to join the team as a member of our growingE&TS National Platform division in Denver, CO.This position sets clear expectations and standardized preconstruction processes across E&TS Business Units. This person models how to develop and build jobs the McKinstry Way. Additional responsibilities may include:
Lead consistent, standardized delivery of preconstruction, estimating, and risk management activities across all project-based business units to enable high-quality, profitable outcomes.
Provide coaching, training, and mentorship across regions and business units at all project phases (conceptual/prelim, ROM/budget, detailed/investment grade, and change orders).
Partner with the Functional Training Program to evolve and maintain preconstruction and estimating curriculum, tools, templates, and training methods (online, in-person, and practical application).
Assess project execution by sampling small-scale projects annually, ensuring application of training, lessons learned, and best practices.
Serve as a primary resource for best practices in estimating, risk management, and use of systems of record (e.g., Viewpoint, Procore, InEight, Excel tools, energy savings models, SharePoint bid packages).
Refine and standardize scopes of work, budgeting tools, and preliminary schedules in partnership with project teams.
Coach teams on identifying and qualifying local subcontractors, assembling bid packages, and managing the full bidding process (RFP development, prequalification, job walks, proposal review, bid leveling, evaluation, negotiation, and award).
Develop and maintain national and regional subcontractor/partner relationships; standardize contract terms and negotiate pricing to support long-term partnerships.
Provide direct support for large-scale, high-risk, or key account projects.
Engage in project review meetings, monthly high-risk reviews, and after-action reviews to identify root causes, lessons learned, and continuous improvement opportunities.
Collaborate with the E&TS Quality Program Manager to align risk and opportunity management with the Quality Management System.
Foster a team approach, ensuring Safety, Engineering, M&V, Commissioning, Legal, and Subcontracts are integrated into preconstruction planning and risk management.
Partner with design and energy engineering leaders to ensure consistent use of proven FIM/ECM sets and approved product lists.
Guide approach for non-standard measures/products to balance innovation with risk.
Stay current on key product developments through regular vendor engagement.
Support and coordinate contract reviews with internal SMEs (Legal, Technical, Financial).
Lead or support development and negotiations of client contracts, subcontractor agreements, and vendor and/or purchase agreements, acting as a subject matter expert to ensure favorable terms and risk mitigation.
Act as SME in client, subcontractor, and vendor contract negotiations.
Ensure seamless transition from sales to build teams.
Write, review, and improve policies, procedures, and supporting documentation with input from stakeholders and SMEs.
Develop and execute implementation and communication plans for standardization initiatives.
Share preconstruction, estimating, and risk management strategies across the organization through group presentations and supporting materials tailored to the audience.
Capture, adapt, and propagate knowledge and standard work across regions.
Conduct field visits to incorporate latest best practices and strengthen feedback loops.
Four (4) year college degree in architecture, engineering, mechanical/electrical engineering, or related field; or equivalent professional experience required.
Strong business acumen and advanced knowledge of financial management programs and software is required.
Twelve (12) years' experience in construction, project management, estimating or preconstruction required.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams.
Intermediate knowledge of Enterprise Construction Management Systems such as Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Trimble ProjectSight, Planisware, etc.
Advanced knowledge of construction management, preconstruction, and cost estimating software tools such as Autodesk (Construction Cloud/BuildingConnected), Procore (Bidding/Planroom), InEight.
Strong project financial skills, including POC accounting, revenue timing and cash-flow modeling, profitability monitoring, and earned value management.
Understanding of energy and construction contracts, including technical scopes of work, key risk items, and how contract terms are implemented on a project.
Proven ability to lead diverse groups including executive and regional leadership, technical experts, project management, sales, and administrative functions in a variety of meeting types and settings.
Demonstrated ability to coach and drive standards into regional offices through peer-level relationships with regional operations leaders.
Strong negotiation skills.

The pay range for this position is $141,570 - $243,900 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
