Position Overview

The Senior Preconstruction Estimator will lead pursuits, initiate conversations with owners, act as the main contact with proposed clients, and manage the estimating group in certain functions. This role involves daily involvement in the preconstruction phase of projects by sourcing and reviewing opportunities, preparing budget estimates and schedules, and formulating work plans based on designs from conceptual to construction documents. The Sr. Estimator helps develop project GMPs by performing quantity take-offs, soliciting subcontractor pricing, and applying historical cost data. The position involves working with both public and private clients.

Assigned Responsibilities

Client Development

• Promote growth and development of client and designer relationships.
• Maintain positive relationships with clients, architects, and engineers to facilitate successful project execution.
• Attend client-initiated meetings during preconstruction.
• Network and promote F.H. Paschen’s interests with owners, architects, and industry professionals.
• Monitor solicitation websites for potential opportunities.

Preconstruction

• Prepare preliminary budgets and detailed estimates, including quantity take-offs.
• Review documents and provide input on general conditions, phasing, and site logistics.
• Create bid lists, solicit bids, and analyze proposals.
• Participate in preconstruction presentations with owners.
• Collaborate on value engineering to optimize costs.
• Maintain knowledge of material costs and compile historical data for future estimates.
• Identify and qualify new suppliers and subcontractors.
• Review specifications and drawings to determine scope.
• Calculate complete scope of work for discipline estimates.
• Maintain backup files for estimate figures.

Construction Planning

• Participate in strategy meetings.
• Assist in preparing construction schedules and work plans.
• Attend design meetings with stakeholders.
• Participate in project hand-offs and verify estimate versus project status through site visits.

Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in preconstruction and estimating preferred.
• Civil and structural experience strongly preferred.
• Four-year degree in construction or civil engineering preferred.
• Proficiency in MS Office, estimating, scheduling, and quantity take-off software.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail.

Licensure/Certifications

• OSHA certification preferred.

Salary Range

$100,000 - $130,000. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
