Job summary

Vertex Pharmaceuticals LLC in San Diego seeks a Toxicology Senior Research Fellow to lead Preclinical Safety Assessment for programs advancing through the discovery pipeline. This hybrid role combines on-site and cross-functional responsibilities with leadership in safety strategy and study oversight.

The incumbent will design and interpret in vivo/in vitro safety studies, mentor scientists, and stay current with toxicology literature and industry trends to drive decisions benefiting patient

Qualifications

• Subject matter expertise in small molecule toxicology and the design and interpretation of in vivo studies.
• In-depth knowledge of animal husbandry and animal welfare issues.
• Excellent data processing and statistical skills.
• Excellent written, verbal communications and influencing skills.
• DABT certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Acts as the PSA lead on research project teams and steering committees.
• Develops the strategy for early safety assessment and supports multiple programs from target selection into development.
• Collaborates with cross-functional and cross-site partners to tailor safety strategies.
• Communicates study results to project teams and site management with interpretation.
• Oversees external studies at CROs/partner organizations and reports findings to PSA leadership.
• Works with regulatory toxicologists to ensure smooth transition from research to development.
• Prepares high-quality reports and presentations communicating study plans and results.
