The County of San Diego's Registrar of Voters has a current opening for SENIOR PRECINCT PLANNING TECHNICIAN.
Interviews will take place the week of June 9th, 2025, and job offers will be made shortly after interviews are complete.
The current vacancy is located at County Operations Center in Kearny Mesa. This list may also be used to fill future vacancies.
Senior Precinct Planning Technicians prepare and maintain a detailed Geographic Information System (G.I.S.) using ArcMap and an election data management system for voter record maintenance, parcel/street address maintenance, polling place maintenance, precinct planning, district coding, and other electoral purposes; and perform related work. They are responsible for directing Precinct Planning Technicians and overseeing temporary election workers and poll recruiters.
The ideal candidate will have experience in performing complex technical mapping tasks, preparing and maintaining detailed maps and election data records, and incorporating thematic mapping capabilities for analyzing voting locations. They should be familiar with planning precinct boundaries, maintaining district boundaries, and understanding federal, state, and local election laws. Prior experience with polling place accessibility in accordance with ADA requirements is highly desirable but not mandatory.

Prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening before starting employment. Additional background investigations may be conducted depending on job activities. Current County employees may be exempt from additional screening.
May include occasional overtime and weekend work, driving work trucks for 60-125 miles daily, walking in hilly areas, exposure to temperature extremes, humidity, wetness, pesticides, chemicals, and working in outdoor and laboratory settings. Duties may involve working with a detection dog team.
