Position Overview
We are seeking an accomplished Senior Pre-Litigation Attorney to independently manage complex, high-value plaintiff personal injury cases from intake through settlement. This leadership-level position will also mentor junior attorneys and legal staff, support departmental improvements, and help maintain exceptional standards for case outcomes and client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a high-volume plaintiff personal injury caseload from intake through settlement.
- Develop case strategies based on liability, damages, insurance coverage, medical treatment, and overall case value.
- Evaluate complex liability issues, medical records, future care needs, and damages.
- Negotiate significant settlements with insurance adjusters and defense counsel.
- Participate in mediations and settlement conferences as appropriate.
- Maintain regular client communication and provide guidance regarding strategy, expectations, and settlement recommendations.
- Monitor statutes of limitation and other critical deadlines.
- Identify cases requiring litigation and coordinate a smooth transition to the litigation team.
- Mentor junior attorneys and provide legal guidance to case managers, legal assistants, and support staff.
- Review work product for accuracy, quality, and compliance.
- Collaborate with leadership to improve workflows, procedures, quality control, productivity, and client satisfaction.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Active California Bar license in good standing.
- Minimum of 8 years of plaintiff personal injury experience, including extensive pre-litigation experience.
- Proven ability to independently manage complex, high-value personal injury cases from intake through settlement.
- Demonstrated success negotiating significant settlements.
- Strong knowledge of California personal injury law, insurance coverage, liability, and damages analysis.
- Previous leadership or mentoring experience within a legal team.
- Exceptional negotiation, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, high-volume plaintiff personal injury practice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
- Experience with catastrophic injury, wrongful death, trucking, premises liability, and other complex personal injury matters.
- Experience supervising attorneys or legal support professionals.
- Mediation and advanced settlement negotiation experience.
