Job summary

Cirrus Aircraft seeks a Staff Aircraft Systems Engineer focused on Powerplant Systems in Duluth, MN. You will design, develop, integrate, and certify powerplant subsystems with engine and propeller partners, coordinating with suppliers and cross-functional teams.

You’ll prepare technical documentation, generate 3D models in Creo, and support certification under FAR Parts 23/25/33. This role requires 25% travel and strong communication to drive design outcomes across programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering required.
  • 7+ years or greater experience in powerplant systems.
  • Experience coordinating with engine/propeller manufacturers and suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with other aircraft disciplines across Cirrus Aircraft platform.
  • Work with a multi-discipline team on powerplant system design development.
  • Identify, select, and coordinate with component and system suppliers.
  • Involved in development and certification under FAR Part 23, 25, or 33.
  • Research industry guidance documents for best practices (e.g., SAE).
  • Create 3D models and drawings of powerplant systems in Creo.
  • Prepare and check documents including test plans, certification reports, and other engineering documents.
  • Perform trade studies on weight, cost, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Communicate effectively on technical issues and fill gaps proactively.
  • Complete project assignments and own design outcomes.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams).
  • Travel requirements estimated at 25%.
