An established international engineering and consulting organization is expanding its U.S. Energy practice and is seeking a Senior Consultant – Transmission Planning to join its growing Power Systems team.

The Role
As a Senior Consultant, you will lead and execute advanced transmission and power system studies, delivering data-driven insights that support planning, interconnection, and operational decision-making. You will work directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams, translating complex analyses into practical recommendations that help shape the future grid.
This position is ideal for an experienced power systems professional who enjoys hands‑on technical work while engaging with stakeholders and contributing to business growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct steady‑state, dynamic, and short‑circuit studies to evaluate transmission system performance, renewable integration, and grid reliability.
- Perform power flow, contingency, transient stability, and voltage analyses using industry-standard software such as PSS®E, PSLF, PSCAD, EMTP/ATP, ETAP, SKM, PROMOD, or similar platforms.
- Support generator and load interconnection studies, transmission planning assessments, congestion management evaluations, and system impact analyses.
- Develop, validate, and maintain power system models, methodologies, and engineering assumptions.
- Collaborate with clients and internal teams to define study objectives, project scope, and technical deliverables.
- Prepare high‑quality technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Contribute to the development of analytical tools, automation initiatives, and best practices that improve project delivery and study efficiency.
- Monitor industry developments, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies including energy storage, inverter‑based resources, and grid‑forming technologies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of experience in transmission planning, power systems engineering, utility operations, or consulting.
- Demonstrated expertise in steady‑state and dynamic simulations, reliability assessments, and system impact studies.
- Strong proficiency with one or more power system analysis tools such as PSS®E, PSLF, PSCAD, EMTP/ATP, ETAP, SKM, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with major U.S. electricity markets and regions, including ERCOT, PJM, MISO, SPP, WECC, or CAISO.
- Understanding of transmission planning practices and applicable NERC and FERC requirements.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving capabilities, and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly and confidently.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within geographically distributed teams.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for client meetings and project workshops.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience supporting the growth of new teams, offices, or technical practices.
- Experience working on international or cross‑functional engineering projects.
