Job summary

SSR Mining Inc. is seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to oversee the design, reliability, and optimization of electrical power systems for mining operations at the Cripple Creek & Victor Mine in Colorado. This critical role requires advanced expertise in high-voltage systems and the ability to manage multi-discipline projects.

The ideal candidate will have over 10 years of relevant experience and a proven track record in leading teams and contractors to ensure production goals while promoting safety and efficiency at the site.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in electrical systems within mining, power generation, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Experience with design and modeling tools like ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NEC, MSHA).

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and optimization of high-voltage electrical systems.
  • Ensure reliability of infrastructure including substations and plant power systems.
  • Develop preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.

Job Description

The Senior Power Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, reliability, and optimization of electrical power systems supporting mining and process plant operations. This role is critical to maintaining safe, continuous production and requires advanced technical expertise in high‑voltage distribution, system troubleshooting, and infrastructure development. This position serves as a technical leader and key decision‑maker, working cross‑functionally with operations, maintenance to ensure system reliability, support capital projects, and drive continuous improvement across the site.

Day to Day
  • Lead the design, analysis, and optimization of high‑voltage electrical distribution systems.
  • Ensure reliability of critical infrastructure including switchgear, MCCs, substations, and plant power distribution systems.
  • Perform root cause analysis and lead resolution of complex electrical failures impacting production.
  • Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting support for processing plant electrical and control systems.
  • Mentor maintenance personnel and supervisors on best practices, diagnostics, and repair strategies.
  • Support rapid response efforts to reduce downtime and restore production safely and efficiently.
Project Management
  • Lead electrical scope for capital and sustaining projects, from design through commissioning.
  • Manage contractors and ensure quality installation of electrical infrastructure, power lines, and plant systems.
  • Oversee system integration across civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical projects.
  • Apply experience in large‑scale mining/process construction projects and system startups.
  • Manage electrical projects including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and execution.
  • Coordinate multi‑discipline efforts across operations, engineering, and contractors.
  • Drive accountability for project delivery in alignment with production and operational priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with MSHA, and electrical safety standards.
  • Conduct system risk assessments and implement controls to mitigate hazards.
  • Act as a leader in promoting a strong site safety culture.
Optimization and Leadership
  • Identify and implement improvements to increase reliability, efficiency, and system performance.
  • Support implementation of new technologies in automation, controls, and power management systems.
  • Drive initiatives that reduce downtime and improve long‑term asset performance.
  • Partner closely with operations and maintenance leadership to support production goals.
  • Provide technical training and mentorship to develop team capabilities.
  • Serve as a key technical resource for site‑wide electrical systems.
Is This You?
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical systems within mining, power generation, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with:
    • High‑voltage distribution systems and infrastructure
    • Process plant construction, commissioning, and operations
    • Electrical system troubleshooting in live production environments
  • Proven background leading multi‑discipline industrial construction and infrastructure projects.
  • Experience managing installation of electrical systems such as power lines, plant systems, and process facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Power system design and analysis
    • Electrical codes and standards (NEC, MSHA)
    • Industrial control systems (PLCs, VFDs, SCADA)
  • Experience with design and modeling tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, AutoCAD) preferred.
  • Proven ability to:
    • Lead teams and contractors across complex projects
    • Manage budgets, schedules, and execution in high‑risk environments
  • Experience with crushing, conveying, leach systems, and processing plants is preferred.
  • Protective relay coordination & power studies
  • Reliability engineering (RCFA, RCM)
  • High‑voltage system design & substation experience
  • Capital planning & project justification
Working Conditions & Location
  • Environment: This role involves working in both office and field environments, including outdoor work at mine sites with exposure to dust, noise, and varying weather conditions.
  • Location: The Cripple Creek & Victor (CC&V) Mine site is located at elevations ranging from approximately 9,400 ft. to 10,600 ft. above sea level.
  • Schedule: M‑Th, 10 hrs / day
  • Physical Demands: The role may require walking on uneven terrain, climbing ladders, and working at heights or in confined spaces.
