Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer focused on power system studies for utility-scale renewable projects in North America. The role involves internal and external studies, interconnection compliance, and delivering projects on time and within budget.

You will collaborate with North America and global teams, support IEEE/CIGRE activities, and travel within North America as needed. A master’s degree is required with 4+ years of direct experience.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognised institution.
  • Minimum 4 years of direct experience with system studies on utility-scale renewable projects.
  • Experience with power system studies using PSS/E, ETAP and PSCAD or other equivalents.
  • Knowledge of IEC, IEEE and CIGRE standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform power system studies (internal to the plant) including, but not limited to, load flow, short circuit, insulation coordination, TOV, arc flash and harmonics.
  • Perform power system studies (external to the plant) related to interconnection to ensure compliance with interconnection requirements as well as NERC standards.
  • Support system studies project(s) throughout the whole lifecycle (i.e. from the technical bid/proposal to execution, reports, client meetings/presentations, to close-out).
  • Contribute to the delivery of projects, delivering on time and to budget.

Your impact

The energy industry, particularly transmission grids, is undergoing major changes to accommodate for regional and global decarbonisation and energy transition targets. Underground and subsea cable technology are, in particular, increasingly becoming a major player in this energy paradigm shift to enable large-scale renewable energy generation, such as offshore wind, green hydrogen or large interconnectors.

Location

This position is flexible and can be remote anywhere in North America. However, preference would be given to candidates located in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Toronto, Boston, Orlando, or Dallas/Fort Worth US.

Duties
  • Perform power system studies (internal to the plant) including, but not limited to, load flow, short circuit, insulation coordination, TOV, arc flash and harmonics.
  • Perform power system studies (external to the plant) related to interconnection to ensure compliance with interconnection requirements as well as NERC standards.
  • Support system studies project(s) throughout the whole lifecycle (i.e. from the technical bid/proposal to execution, reports, client meetings/presentations, to close-out).
  • Contribute to the delivery of projects, delivering on time and to budget.
  • Work closely with the team members across North America and globally.
  • Work with different types of customers including renewable developers, utilities, and ISOs/RTOs.
  • Participate in ISO/RTO stakeholder forums and other technical committees such as IEEE or CIGRE.
What you’ll need
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, from a recognised institution.
  • Minimum 4 years of direct experience with system studies on utility scale renewable projects.
  • Experience with power system studies using PSS/E, ETAP and PSCAD or other equivalents.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards such as IEC, IEEE and CIGRE.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical capabilities with a focus achieving results.
  • Team player with great interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within North America.
Ideally, you’ll also have
  • Experience with systems studies in California and/or WECC.
  • Experience with offshore wind and HVDC.
  • Knowledge of programming languages to streamline studies using Python.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or PEng) Licence.

Salary

The base salary range for this position is $132,900.00 to $174,450.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
