Job summary

Jobtailor in Illinois seeks a Senior Power Systems Engineer to lead and own end-to-end power studies for industrial clients, from scoping to client-ready deliverables. You will build and validate ETAP, EasyPower, or SKM models and perform load flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, and protection coordination.

Travel to client sites as needed; mentor junior engineers and help develop standards and templates. PE license or progress toward licensure preferred; strong communication skills required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
  • 8+ years of experience performing power system studies for industrial clients
  • Advanced, hands-on proficiency in ETAP, EasyPower or SKM, including building and validating models
  • Deep command of load flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, protective device and relay coordination, motor-starting, and harmonics
  • Proven ability to own studies independently from scoping through client-ready deliverables
  • Working knowledge of IEEE 1584, IEEE 3000 Series, NFPA 70, and NFPA 70E
  • Strong written communication and reporting skills
  • Working proficiency in Excel and the Microsoft Office suite
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States and maintain authorization throughout employment without company sponsorship
  • Ability to work in industrial or utility environments while wearing PPE
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or active progress toward licensure preferred
  • Experience with PSS E, PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, Cyme, Aspen Oneliner, or EMTP preferred
  • Transient stability, dynamic, or utility interconnection study experience preferred
  • Master’s degree in Power Systems, Electric Power, or Energy Systems preferred
  • Experience mentoring engineers and supporting proposals and estimating preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead and own power system studies end-to-end from scoping to client-ready reports
  • Build and validate models in ETAP, EasyPower, or SKM PowerTools
  • Perform load flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, protective device and relay coordination
  • Develop and perform dynamic analyses such as transient stability and harmonics
  • Coordinate protection schemes and relay settings
  • Mentor junior engineers on modeling, analysis, and standards
  • Develop and maintain study templates, methodology, and quality standards
  • Travel to client facilities to gather field data and support projects
  • Review studies and perform reviews as senior responsibilities increase

Job description

  • Lead and own power system studies end-to-end, including scoping, modeling, analysis, quality control, and final client-ready reports
  • Build and validate models in ETAP, EasyPower, or SKM Power*Tools
  • Perform load flow, short-circuit, arc-flash, protective device and relay coordination, motor-starting, and harmonics studies
  • Perform additional dynamic or static motor-starting, harmonics, ground grid, transient stability, and lightning analyses as required
  • Create and analyze relay setting files and coordinate protection schemes
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for clients, scope work, gather data, and present findings and recommendations
  • Review and quality-control studies produced by junior engineers
  • Mentor junior engineers on modeling, analysis, and standards
  • Develop and maintain study templates, methodology, and quality standards
  • Travel occasionally to client facilities to gather field data alongside Nexus personnel
  • Work is reviewed by the discipline manager before reaching the client and perform reviews for others as senior responsibilities increase
